I have recently purchased a YC series doublelife 4 lobe dizzy to run in a 292 Y/block and was just wanting some info on setting it up using two coils and two capacitors.I am used to the 8 lobe standard mallory using single coil and cap but am wondering what the proper setup procedure is for the 4 lober. I looked at a couple of websites but they only covered the 8 lober. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks Chris.
Like I said, still learning about these, thought you might kit it with different cap and coils etc.I don't confess to be a rocket scientist. If you ain't made a mistake you have'nt made anything.
Ther's only one place to go for answers on this subject: GMC BUBBA 9Jim Linder) on this site. If you haven't seen his postings on distibutor rework/mods, you haven't been doing the H.A.M.B. justice. (Am I the only guy that reads the first 4 pages every day?)
Also you may be mixing up two entirely different point layouts...on the cl***ic dual point, a Mallory invention, the points open with overlap...both points work together with maybe 8 degrees of difference. These cannot be used separated due to the overlap! The funny model Mallories that partially replicated dual coilness (there were two different ones, cannot remember names) had points arranged so they were open and closed at entirely separate times...one kind worked a special coil with two primaries and one secondary...with the names of those models, you can easily find threads giveing tech and workarounds.
I have a mallory Rev-pol distributor #yc-910f for a sbc. It uses a dual winding dual input (one from each set of points) Rev-Pol coil with one secondary coil wire . I do not know if it will work with a conventional coil. There may be too much point dwell overlap.
I ran a 4 lobe Rev-pol normal all summer in my 64 'camino, before i got t-boned, you have to set it up like a normal mallory if you dont have a special rev-pol coil, ie 1 condenser and a jumper wire to the other points, i fried a couple sets of points before i figured that one out
