Like I said on other posts,The best show I have been to. Each car was different, and there were a ton of cool people there to hang with. Can't wait for next year already. Cheers to Axle and the rest of the crew that put it on.

  2. Squeak is stopping to stay the night with me tomorow on his way to Austin in his bitchin' 40 coupe here in Tucson, Az. I will post pictures of his awesome coupe for all to see how a 40 should be built. I wish I could join him but I just started a new job 3 weeks ago after being laid off for 4 months. Viva looked fun Axle and I wish I could have been there. You showed some pictures of some great cars but what about all the weird stuff that was in the other threads? How are you going to get rid of that crap? Last year you said you would deal with the "art cars". Please explain. Dale

  3. Squeak's 40 rules all. Period. Coolest car, owned by the coolest hot rodder I have ever met. Fitting.

Paul Reichlin (Rajo1) of Cedardale Upholstry out here did those running board covers recently...

I wasn't going to talk about this because i want to keep this thread positive ,but i have given it much thought for the past few hours and find it necessary . It amazes me that so many Hambers bash VLV and/or our car show. It takes months of preparation to make something of this magnitude happen, and let me tell those who have never organized an event before that its a LOT of work. We had a little over 600 cars pre register by two weeks ago. Another 300 or so showed up throughout the weekend. Out of that we turned away at least 50 cars for various reasons (high tech, billet, tubbed rear ends, too new, too ratty, etc) but the fact some "questionable cars" got in was mainly due to the fact that other staff members allowed them in when none of our club members were manning the gate. next year we plan to be at the gate every hour that cars are allowed in . In addition to that, we will make our rules on the VLV website perfectly clear so that there is no confusion.

Some of the customs there really kicked ass.

  17. I normally dont post on stuff like this, however folks need to remember that Hot Rodding/Customs/Street Rodding is and always has been and always will be "DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS", "WHAT EVER GETS YOUR JUICES FLOWING" and nothing else!! I have been to hundreds of shows in my 69 years and have never found anyone, including myself who likes EVERY car in the show, if its not your type or likes, just move on, dont spend the time there but remember someone liked and built it. My 40 has been around for over 30 years, many like it, many dont, and it the same for the Deuce 5W 50s survivior and my 34 I drove in HS in the 50s. Does it bother me? No, The wife and I built the 40 the way we wanted it, the way we would enjoy it and so on. Many of the cars were my type/style and many were not but what the Shifters are trying to accomplish and have as far as we are concerned have, is to provide a little something for all of us to enjoy!!
I have been to several VLVs and missed some due to critical family medical issues including several "mini strokes" for the wife, thank God she is pretty well again and rejoins me in our "Hot Rodding" endeavors and drives the shit out of her own 40 coupe that we were married in in 75.
As far as we are concerned, Hats off to Alex and the Shifters, we think you guys are doing one hell of job and hope you are able to continue. We are always glad to be there to see many of our old friends and always leave having met many new ones. We will return as Health issues let us.
Thanx for the fun we have had anyway!!! Dave and Sue

Thats all fine and dandy, "different strokes..." but when a car show is billed as a "traditional" styled hot rods and customs car show then that's all that should show up. People damn well know when they built a crap rod for attention. And they also know Viva's car show isn't for crap rods!

heh, my wife got all fired up when I told her she could not take her 65 Ford Falcon because it was too new...cut off is 62. Right?
She was like it is allowed on the HAMB why not there? I told her rules are rules. She has been looking at the HAMB for VLV pics and she has been calling me over to her computer asking WHAT YEAR IS THAT CAR! None were over 62 that I could tell but she would not let up. She then went with I would rather see cars like mine then this pointing out some of the rat rods...She then said fine Santa Maria is coming up. Well I have not told her the rules for there yet.

No real point to this post. Great show...there were a lot of great cars and some crap ones there but most shows are like that and I just tune out the crap ones.

  23. Nobody here can tell me there were no ratrods back in the day. Maybe they were'nt called ratrods but there sure were alot of Jalopies. Were'nt Jalopies low buck, run what ever you could afford and what ever you had on hand type cars? Well isn't that what Ratrods are? Hmmm. And I bet back in the day, these people were proud of their cars just like the builders of today.
Hey we are all in this together and I dont understand the negativity against someone elses vision. As long as the cars are safe ( which also could mean alot of different standards) then all the power to them. We are all car people!!! At least these cars dont have a bunch of billet and are catalog built cars.

    Axle,
I learn a lot here on the HAMB, but screw the crybabies and shit talkers. I, myself, can enjoy a creative rat as much as a totally accurate 1946 Muroc dry lake race replica.
Our show is 25% the size of yours and I know how much work our little thing requires. The Shifters did a great job and we had a great weekend. Never even left the hotel in 4 days.

Read the tag line at the top of this site. If you have to ask then you don't understand. Rat Rod is not another term for Jalopy.

  27. I had a great time and I will be there again next year hopefully with my Hot Rod Lincoln V12.

    Thanks

Thanks for the pics Axle couldn't make it this year.
Any word on the Rockabilly Rave in October? I went last year and heard your announcement on stage about a car show being added to this event.

    Thanks!
