I've got a 4brl Edelbrock carb(pretty new) at the shop that has a really loose throttle shaft, the customer doesn't know much about it, and I don't have model #'s at the moment but I did check a brand new Performer I had sitting on the shelf, and the shaft on it is pretty loose too.

Any ideas on how to fix the issue?

Got a brand new # 1405 on the shelf here. Looks like the shaft moves up and down about .020 or so...

When I was selling auto parts we had a few Carter AFBs in stock and they all had loose throttle shafts. I asked the Carter Rep. about it and he said " That is a metered vacuum leak, its supposed to be that way. )
We quit selling Carters after that.

Wow! "It's not a bug, it's a feature" translated into analog tech!

"If you can't fix it - feature it!

In the late 50's one of the big three's new models came in at 400+ lbs over weight. Their car ads read "...the NEW 195X Blabla - now with 400 additional pounds of ROAD HOLDING WEIGHT!"

Uh, riiiiiiiiiiight. That's why they make race cars out of lead.
