UPDATE #9: Doing THE EXHAUST.....Poll.....YOUR OPINION?!?!

Last night was another night "just like the '50s" as you can see from this set of photos.

As seen in update #8, Matt had the main part of the header put together. Last night we tried to decide which way to go with the rest of it.


Option #1

This was our gut reaction as to what was "period perfect". It's hard to deny the cool factor with this one because it's just loud for the sake of loud.

Option #2

This is more along the cool rat rod train of thought - weld **** on because you have it lying around.




Option #3

If sort-of-rat-rod is cool then way-rat-rod must be even cooler, right? What's cooler than welding **** on just because you have it lying around? Welding **** on that has nothing to do with hot rods just because you have it lying around, of course! Because people staring at you (for any reason) cons***utes a successful build, right?





Plus, now there's room for a p***enger.

This option looks pretty stupid.

Tough call Kirk...I'm leaning toward #3...But for p***enger survival I'd have to say #4.

#1 would be cool, but that megaphone needs to be changed to one without electronics for the 'old school' look

 

#3 for sure! Your p***enger can get a refreshing breath of exhaust fumes while neutering himself on the rear tire! Now that's owel' skule!!

 

# 3 is gonna be a ball buster........... i like #4

I would go with 1,or 2 definitely ,definitely.and I got some more **** I could send you to weld on!

 

needs more of a curve all the way back, just like you drew...

or go totally ratrod-a-rific and mount a bubble top on it, then plumb the exhaust inside it. all the cool kids will be doing soon.

I think part of the aesthitic issue comes from the bottom of the head collector appears to be pointing either flat or down. when you tack on the pipe, the curve seems forced at the middle rather than a constant upward flow from the first cylinder to the tip of the exhast outlet.

and while I was thinking, how would it look with a pair of 2.5" exhaust pipes out one side? (still period and prefectly legit)

it is going to be murder on the ears, but the length is almost to long, feels like it should terminate at the back of the body (as opposed to behind the tank)

 

I vote #1...

BUT

Only if you replace that new-age-not-ol-skool megaphone with a TRADITIONAL and TRULY OL SKOOL option, like a trumpet!

I think a combo of #1 and #3 The mega phone is a must have. Be different and don't do it like #4.

 

#3 but you need to add some sort of platform for Matt to stand on as I don't think he is going to last too long riding on the tire like that.

 

OK....after seeing the video...Its gotta be #1

 

# 2 would look good so long as you use a mailbox for an air cleaner.

Wow, option No1 gives it a very melodic idle.
Or better yet cant you combine all 4? A full loop with the handlebars for p***enger, long rear tube with the melodic idle trumpet....................
Nah, it needs a skull in there too, and spider webs. Maybe in the center of the loop?

I think if you went with Option 2, you could hook up some sort of Reverse Turbo, and plumb the exhaust directly into the intake.

You could have a zero emissions car, AND you could compete with "Diesel Smokestack Rat Rod Truck" at the next Viva.

 

Damn I missed the video first time thru. Definitely #3 with the sireeeen. Everyone will get out of the way on your way to take your p***enger to the hospital.

 

#2.....but use flex pipe.....at least off the block.

 

I have an O-fficial Po-lice light bar to complete the "Car 54 Where are you(?)" look if you need it!

Have you thought about mounting one of those "Mother-in-Law" seats on the outside for p***engers?

The exhaust in #3 reminds me of this....

 

Option #2... Ram air exhaust is so next Tuesday.

We have created a special device to make tire riding possible. Essentially it's a metal-wheeled roller skate and a belt.

 

Lame. Incorporate a shopping cart... then I'll be impressed.

 

HAHAHAHA In that case #3 for sure but are you going to need ape hangers though so he can reach the bars while skating on the tire?

 

I like number 4 best.....but i would have it run lower along the body then sweep up 2/3 of the way back.

I say #3 but make sure you have one of those pouting dolls hanging off the bars and get some ol skool streamerz made from zodiac hanging out of the grips in black and red. If you could incorporate one of those Woo Woo things into the exhaust, you'd be the catz azz on the left cozt.

And why are you using new pipe , you made outta money!!!
I would find some old water pipe or chain link fence posts or an old swing set with the barbershop stripping on it it would be bad azz.

Wait Wait even better rip the gutters off your neighbors house and use the down spouts as tailpipes.
