I have read for a long time and cannot find the exact answer to my question. I have a 52 chevy hardtop and I want to install a 700r4 tranny with a V8. Will the stock tunnel clear or do I need to install a new tunnel from EMS or equivelent? I have the floor completely out right now with the exception of the original tunnel which is in good shape still. I have the body off on a rotisserie right now also. Thanks for any info.
Never heard of anyone needing a new tunnel with a TH350 or a 700R4, unless they lower the car so much the driveshaft doesn't clear it. Will need to modify the trans crossmember, though.
Even the EMS looks the same as the original except it is a one piece. I am only lowering the car 4 inches.
EMS's is probably intended to be a stock replacement. To get so low it won't clear you have to be talking frame on the ground with notches in the rails so the rear axle doesn't bang on it -
Thanks for your input. I was reading their new tunnel and they said it was correct for a 350/400 and 700R4. Thats why I posted. My car came with the 3 speed stick. If I don't need one it will save me money. Thanks
we only make one trans tunnel for 49-54 chev basically it is stock except we filled in the hole to make it one piece. you will need to make a new trnasmount for the trans you pick but the stock trans cover is ok
Thanks for the response EMS. I bought all of your floor pans and other metal parts for my car so far. Very good quality.
got a 700R4 and 305 in my 49. seems to fit OK with the stock tunnel so far, but I haven't driven it, or even had the body completely bolted back down
