Anyone recommend any chrome shops in So-Cal? Also need stainless polisher/straightener. Thanks, FONZI
There is a great polisher in Santa Fe springs { Stubelfields, Joe} I'll post his number in the morning. As far as Chrome shops, your guess is as good as mine.--TV
chrome: there's vern's then there's everyone else. as far as stainless goes, i use a place called restoration pieces on grevillea in lawndale. very nice and reasonable work. i dont have the number handy but they're right around the corner from my place. PM me if you want contact info.

Just get it done quick, I was talking to Bob at Vernes yesterday and the EPA is going to require some new fitering machine (million dollar machine) be put on every Chrome shop in CAlifornia. I was told to expect prices to at least double if not triple at the end of this year.
I use : For repairs , welding , straightening etc . Cl***ic welding and repair 8235 Lankershim blvd. unit M North Hollywood Ca. 91605 818)771-0602 They are excellent ! For polishing : V and C polishing right across from Cl***ic welding on Lankershim 818)767-5170 (Jose Ramos) His work is awesome , sometimes misses deadlines , un poco borracho , a little flakey , but great guy and awesome polishing . For chrome , nickel , other plating and powdercoating , minor straightening and repairs Astro metal polishing 8136 Lankershim blvd. North Hollywood Ca. 91605 818)768-6535 ask for Jesse Honestly his work is not always show quality , but it is very nice , very reasonable and turns parts around in a week or so usually . If you unwrap it and aren't happy , he'll usually refinish it again at no charge , no at***ude , no questions asked . I've used these 3 places quite a bit for the last 12 years or so and hope this information is useful . Best of luck !
fonzi- sihiling in santa ana, they take longer (cause everyone figuered out they are better) and a little more$ but for both chome/stainless are the best Ive used.
I use universal plating in Irwindale. On first street, just south of the 210 fwy. they do nice work, everything Iv'e taken to them has held up except for 1 bumper, which started to bubble after a couple months, but they re-plated it free. Really reasonable too, at least last time I used em' (bout three years ago). Got a badly beaten 60 savoy front bumper straightened and chromed for $160.
the EPA jerks have destroyed quality chrome work in California, this was from an old school chromer in 2003, go out of state for a vender that is still able to copper treat metal before chroming. sunny
i've had real good luck with west coast plating in oceanside, they're a smaller shop, but the quality on everything i've seen out of them is great. prices and turn around time are very resonable as well.
Sihilling (Santa Ana?) did some terrific aluminum polishing for me but this was 10+ years ago. Good to see they're still around/reccomended!
Well, Went with Sihilling. I was impressed with his attention to detail. I will report back on how it all comes out. FONZI
I have only used Verne's chrome plating in Gardena as I can trust Bob with the parts and know I will get a real good quality job. I currently have a grill for my pick up getting done. It was a hefty price, and I should have done it two years ago. I know it will look good just the same. Seeing as prices will go up again with the new fangled EPA friendly half million dollar machine, I may get my bumper, and last few remaining parts done. Here is the URL: http://verneschromeplating.com/. Keep it shiny!
Follow up.... As I mentioned I went with: Sihilling Charles Metal Polishing 1018 E Chestnut Ave Santa Ana, CA 92701 (714) 543-7051 This was a good experience for me. Charles spent a lot of time with me when I dropped the order off and was very upfront and explained some things that I did not understand prior to my visit. He does send chrome work and some repair work out and does most of the polishing in house. At 1st I was thinking, why am I taking my stuff to a broker? I quickly learned that there is a lot of value in working with a professional like Charles. Because he does so much chrome he gets wholesale prices which allow him to put a mark up on the stuff he sends out without gauging you. Example, the top grill bar in my 51 chevy grille had been re-plated but it had some flaws. I handed it to him and he knew immediately that something was wrong without even looking at the piece. He could tell by the weight. He explained to me that copper is more expensive than chrome (and fills better) and a lot of times platers will only put one coat of copper (when more are neeeded) and then just chrome the **** out of it. The results are a lesser quality finish that will not be as durable. He sent this piece back several times until it was perfect. As a hobbiest off the street I do not think I would have been able to get the quality that Charles demands from his ***ociates. He is a true professional that knows his stuff. He has been in the biz for a LONG time and his experience shows. He was not cheap but his pricing seemed fair, it did take awhile to get the job done, he seems to be very busy. However, I was not in a hurry and did not pressure him at all. In all I had two grille bars straigntened/repaired and chromed, a set of aluminum valve covers polished, and over 20 pieces of stainless trim straightened and polished. He also had some custom modifications done to my beltline trim to eliminate the cut outs that go around my wipers. Total cost was 1,340.00. FONZI
I don't because everything is wrapped up and put away. It came out pretty nice. If I looked pretty close and held it in the right light I can see the repaired/welded area. I brought this to their attention and they explained that if they polished it or worked any more it would become too weak/brittle. I am happy with it and I think it will look good on the car. I will snap a shot as soon as I can. I brought them a seperate piece of the same trim to cut the filler pieces out of. I have more of this piece if you need it. FONZI
