VonDad had an idea to build a 41 Chevy pickup with a flathead Ford v8. That was before we got rid of all that stuff.
If you guys like wierd stuff I'm puttin' a 383 in my '50 chevy. The Mopar kind, with a 727 and dana rear. should be fun seeing the face when I say 383 and people see that big ol' dizzy in the front!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'm too Chevy Biased....only cool Blue ovals are flattys and SOHC 427's! lol
How about a 406 in a 55 Chev ala Ed Roth. I'd still like to put a 390 in a 57 belair just to be obnoxious. I know where there is an abandoned 58 Impala convert, maybe I will drag it home and put my 460 in it.
The tide is turning! Not that I'm a Ford fanatic, just that the Chevy guys are so freakin militant...funny how it seems natural to most people to stick a Chevy in ANYTHING, but just mention dropping something non-Chevy in a Chevy body...
There is a 39 chevy coupe race car down the road from here with a flathead V8 in it. Goes like a crazy. It is used for vintage racing.
dvanecek, i like it i got a fresh 383 in the garage, and a fresh torqueflite too. then there's my 59 ford wagon that needs a new engine......
Hey, the Ford 300 six is one of the most bullet proof engines ever designed. And it will confuse a lot of people, I bet most wouldn't even notice it was a ford. Geno
i'll be able to tell. it'll be the one that the main bearings sound like ****... can't kill 'em but ya can't stand to listen to 'em either
When is someone gonna put a supercharged Thunderbird SC 3.8 V6 into a gutted 57 Chevy?? Do I gotta do EVERYTHING???
[ QUOTE ] Hey, the Ford 300 six is one of the most bullet proof engines ever designed. And it will confuse a lot of people, I bet most wouldn't even notice it was a ford. Geno [/ QUOTE ] Best engine Ford ever made IMO. Well of the common production stuff anyway.

[/ QUOTE ] You got that right Barnett...we bowtie fans are so used to having things a certain way and with all these people talking of doing such a thing with our beloved automobiles it becomes unnerving lol...we are hippocrits(sp?)...o well...One fella brought his 55 chevy is a 5.0 Mustang motor in it to a Cl***ic Chevy convention and it made a big **** of an uproar I tell ya! What gets me is that people do it for others reactions...and it often works...but I figure why change something if what you are putting in does not supercede what was previously there...i.e. Flathead in a 57 Bel Air...just goofy There is my little more than 2c which nobody gives a **** about Greg

[/ QUOTE ] The part about it that makes it so bad is that Ford has traditionally been the style leader and Chevy the performance/cost/reliability leader...it's only natural to take a good looking body and drop a good performing mill in it. Now to take the lesser of the two and mate them up just ain't right...
Years ago a guy around here put a Mop 383 into a 62(?) Nova. Kinda cobbled in, but man what a ride. Had a guy that kept blowing up sbchebys in his 63 Cheby pickup I put a 318 in it, he never did blow that up, but he sure tried. I think it's about time people started making those big improvements in all those chevys by upgrading their drive traing to just about anything else... Just think how much better all those Camaros would have been with 318s or 289s in them. Gene
[ QUOTE ] ut I figure why change something if what you are putting in does not supercede what was previously there...i.e. Flathead in a 57 Bel Air [/ QUOTE ] I totally agree! I just don't think sbc's are better than sbf's...there's where the drama always comes in. I also really dig other makes of motors...like Mopar and big Ponchos...right Crease?! It's just refreshing when people think a little outside the box...whether the box is paint, body style or motor or whatever...run what you can get your grubby little mitts on and have some fun. If it rubs some folks the wrong way...BONUS!!
Dan, SBC's arent any better than SBF's. It's just that SBCs were around before SBFs. They cover another 10 years of "period correct". The SBF in dads falcon will stomp plenty of SBCs. I've owned or been intimately involved with an SBC, SBF, SBM, flathead 8, flathead 4, Dodge straight 6, Chevy straight 6, and some big *** caddy motor in dads 67'. The only motor I truly hate is the Olds 307 from the mid 80's. Those things are truly ****. I wouldn't pay 10 cents for one of those things. They look like frickin Christmas trees. They have brackets on their brackets to hold brackets. What a pain in the ****.
[ QUOTE ] They cover another 10 years of "period correct". [/ QUOTE ] Yeah...that pesky "period correct" stuff. I prefer, "done in the spirit of" much more.
i think the point of the SBC is they are cheap, you can buy parts for them everywhere and you dont have to worry about it being a early or late engine really. Ford changfed everything every frickin 9 months... so its a Pita to find parts sometimes. Ford and mopar have made GREAT awesome engines, but part availability for those obsolete engines makes them spendy/unattractive to some people. The FE ford motor, as little as i know about them, is a awesome motor. Power galore. but they are expensive.
My local favorite is a 1950 Chevy Fleetline with Small block Ford, C4, and a Ford 9 inch rear. Love the license plate NOEKG !
Crease, Speakin of poor engines. Let not forget about pontiac's 326. I had a one in my tempest that was ****. I had friend try to tell me it was the same as achevy 327 just different # for different company. All I did was to end the debate was let him drive it. The 389 I run now rules though.
