Very cool... I had a "spare" 3 door 'burb body laying around that I was going to do the same thing with, but built as an exhibition wheelstander. Got tired of the clutter and sold the bodyshell...

it's a great looking truck, before the rear-engined aspect come's into play, nice idea and very well executed, congrats on that.just a suggestion, but i would put a plain cover and tailgate on the bed, then under the hood i would put a stock 350 SBC, that had blown up. look cool at shows with a rod or two hanging out of your "motor"!

Hands down the coolest project posted here in a LONG time. I gotta ask about that 2x4 intake (maybe you said, but I didn't see), is it a stock iron one you've used or aftermarket alum?

Wow do you guys have some ideas, from one end of the spectrum to the other, I like it!

I've got about 8 months into it, but they were LONG nights, and every night sort of thing. The research aspect as well was a HUGE hurdle. Ever had to explain why you need a 14 ft throttle cable, 18' choke cable, or a reverse pattern TH400 shifter? Yeah...... Haha.

The intake is an old Offy 360 dual quad aluminum. It has a pair of 500 carter AFB's on it, and it will wear a pair of chrome helmets with spike nuts. Right now it has an Edelbrock 650 on the stock Toro intake with a 1" spacer and 1" adapter to clear the linkages (the stock toro intake is super-low).

I won't weight the front end, as it drives good now. The front inner fenders are un-modified, and the tires are about 3/4" away from them, so it rubs on large bumps. I will look after that problem this winter.

Long winters bring out the best. I think it's cool.

Get one one those plastic small block chev mock-up motors for up front, Drive into an event with a couple of plug wires pulled, Get out, piss and moan about how shitty it's running, throw a fricken fit, open the hood and yank the motor out and toss it 20 feet.

  10. I like it a lot. Your progress is definitely going the right direction. Not sure if the 425 trans uses the same converters as a regular trubo 400 does, but you could always take your converter to a converter shop to be rebuilt with higher stall speed.

I think the young lady in your avitar looks sad?
Anyways.....this thing kicks ass. When I was in high school, a guy had a VW bus with a Toronado drivetrain. Scary. It felt like it was gonna tip over all the time.

No recent updates yet unfortunately, shop is PACKED with other stuff at the moment and I'm about 100 miles from it, but I will be firing up again shortly, as there are a few additions I want/need for this year.

The 1968 (I believe) Toronado's had a switch pitch converter with a higher stall speed, so I'd love to find one of those, as this thing just doesn't take off the line like it should, mind you, it doesn't spin either.

When I first started driving this truck, it had rear alignment issues... By issues I mean I might as well not have had a steering wheel, haha. When I figured I had it dialed in better, I took it for another try (this was MONTHS later). Knowing how it was before, I was almost ready to write a suicide note, you know, just in case it did what it did again to me... Luckily, my "do it yourself" tape measure/chalk line/transit/laser level alignment did the trick. It doesn't even cut tires! Keep in mind, I did this because no alignment shop will touch this truck, but that's fine with me, as doing it myself I know it's done to my personal preference.

Haha, true enough, where'd you see the video at? It's on Youtube and I believe Bravo on television. Being in a music video is one experience I would totally relive.

The cooling system works good actually. On the highway the fan is on, in town it's off. It has to be filled through the neck in the top of the hose, but aside from that, it's good to go.
