I was reading my old Steering and Ch***is mag (by the editors of Hot Rod magazine, 1962) and in talking about steering they mention "the traditional kind of rod, so we'll qualify our words here to mean anything on a 1934 or older Ford or similar car using a drag link parallel to the frame rail."

So if you have cross steering, or a '35 or later car, I guess you ain't traditional.

let's see: two arms, two legs, one head on my shoulders, yep, looks like I'm traditional!

Oh, you mean about cars, yeah, whatever. Marketing driven labels to pull in consumer dollars just don't interest me. Hot rods, however, do interest me:D

Sometimes "traditional" is ill-defined and you only have to see who the publisher is, as to whether to adopt the lingo or lifestyle.

You're reading more into it than is there.

The original Hot Rods were 20s and 30s cars that used parallel drag links. When fat fendered cars came along, they were eventually included as hot rods or custom rods. Fat fendered cars were seldom used as fenderless hot rods, contrary to popular belief here. ( And when they were, they usually had parallel drag links).

'Traditional' is probably the most abused word there is on the H.A.M.B., as everyone wants to make sure their car fits the criteria for inclusion, and has even been *******ized to the point of 'Well, they used junk yard engines back in the day, so my 1.4L TPI Honda motor fits 'traditional' because it's what I could afford and came from a junkyard."

You have to put it in the perspective and mindset of those who were doing it back when it was written, not what you imagine it was like today, using current knowledge.

As I have said before, it's a shame that the younger guys/girls will never really know what it was like, because unless you lived it, it's really impossible to understand exactly what it was like.

Just enjoy it as it is in your world.
