Power steeering pressure on Ford pumps??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Algoma56, Apr 15, 2009.

  1. Looking to put power rack in place of the manual rack on my
mustang 11 front end under the 47. Anyone know if the pump that feeds stering box on an early 80's Ford van (steering box) runs at the same pressure as the rack and pinion systems?

I have swaped a lot of the ford PS pumps and not noticed any difference. I currently did a MII under my 46 and have a 86 rack with 90 PS and it works great.

Most of the Ford pumps are fine with MII racks. Early and late model they produce less pressure than the GM pumps so they give a much better road feel than the GM's which tend to be over boosted. I have used many Ford pumps from 60's to current with no problems.
