I checked the search function and didnt find anything. i will try to explain this as best as I can. Motor and ****** came out of a 1971 Pontiac Lemans. Both have been rebuilt. The car has taken me a long time so it hasnt been driven other than on the driveway.

I finally finished my brakes so today I tried to pull it out on the drive way. It shifted into gear fine but took a little extra gas to get it to go in reverse.

WHen I went to put it back into the garage I put it into drive, gave it gas and went no were. In order to get it to move I had to give it a whole lot of gas and it still just crawled along. And fyi. it does this in all gears.

Im at my wits end here so any help will be highly appreciative.

its full. It also has an external filter. I pulled the lines off it and cranked it to make sure I had fluid flowing in the right direction

Sounds like it is starving for fluid, could be a clogged filter, internal or external. maybe it needs to run awhile to fill up the torque converter?

  5. if the pump is pumping the torque converter will fill up real quick. i'd check for a plugged filter inside

it has run a lot sitting in garage, i will do what you said and check the filter. I have noticed that when i kill the engine and get out I can hear fluid running in the lines almost like it cant go any where and once pressure is off it it rolls back

thanks guys. Ill get back out there asap and see what I can come up with. Im going to try to by p*** the external filter ( still not sure why I put it on there) and see what it does.

  9. Those lines should flow enough to fill a quart bottle in just a few seconds, your filter may be the problem, if you're going to use one it would have to flow like one for a tuned port injection fuel filter does -

UPDATE: I took off the external filter and just had the fluid running threw the cooler. Let it run for awhile and it started doing better. Killed it and checked fluid and it was now low. Filled it up and let it run again. Problem solved, Thanks all!!!!
