Does anyone have the info (or website address) for those sheet metal clamps that harbor freight sells, the ones for clamping your new patch panel in place before welding. I remember the topic came up a couple months ago, and I thought I saved the thread but I guess I didn't. Anyone have the info?
I bought a set a couple of weeks ago from Harbor Freight. $4.95 for eight of them, as I recall. They work the ***s. Of course, if you want the really GOOD ones, you can buy them from Eastwood for ONLY $29.95 for FOUR of 'em. Yeah, right - I looked at Eastwoods' clamps at Carlisle and they look to be EXACTLY the same as H.F.s'. Prolly made in the same mainland China sweatshop. Man, I know businesses have to mark stuff up, but if H.F. is making money at 62¢ each, what kinda percentage is Eastwood making at $7.50 each ?? Holy **** - I'm in the wrong business !!!!!!!
Let's face it, Eastwood doesn't sell anything cheap. They succeed by advertising during all of the car shows that are on TV. The guys watching the muscle or street rod shows are usually "you get what you pay for" types so either they don't know about the HF ones, or they don't care because "You pay more but you get more..." BTW, I tried Harbor Freight's website before posting this. I used "Sheet Metal Clamp" in the keyword search and they showed every other type of Vise Grip and wood working clamp you can imagine, EXCEPT this thing.
The part number is 44751 It appears HF has discontinued them. You cannot order them thru their catalog and searching for the Part # gets you to a picture of the clamps and their "shopping list". I've een looking for a couple of sets as well.
I looked around HF a couple of months ago and didn't see any so i figured either they stopped carrying them or they just didn't get them at the one here. Sure seem like they would make the job alot easier and better than clamping with vice grips. Doesn't seem like they would be super difficult to make.
