Stupid question. Does anyone know where I can find a good old fashioned dwell meter? Mine went missing... Analog perhaps even? I have several digital multimeters and dont feel like spending a huge wad of cash for another digital multimeter that can also read dwell. Is there a place I can buy just a dwell meter at, or is there a simple solution Im missing here? (besides pertronix, yes I know) Any help appreciated, thank you.
I think I still have one tucked away in the rollaway. It's a small handheld, Hawk, or RAC or something... it's that old. If it's there and you want it, it's yours.
Thank you guys very much. My sears didnt carry one and the guy was an idiot, so I didnt want to try to order something from an idiot. I'd like to get a couple of new analog ones to carry in the trunk. RetroJim I sent you a PM. Thank you guys very much for your help!
Jeez, I have two of them (and no cars with points!) Try Autozone. Seriously. I think that's where one of mine came from. NAPA? O'Reilly?
Northern Tool has an actron digital multi meter with dwell and tach. nice meter too. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200329221_200329221
Yep, Sears is where I got mine too. However, that was about 8-10 years ago; hopefully they can still order them if they're not on the shelves.
when i bought mine, sears did NOT have anything on the shelves... never bothered with trying to order one cause i had a northern tool close by my place at the time
Funny thing about that, I went in to 4 auto parts stores last week looking for a flexible points adjustable tool (remember the tool to adjust points dwell while the engine is running?) and no one had one. Can't get them anymore according to them. Man, all of a sudden I felt old realizing points have not been used in 30+ years. LOL
You can still find them at yard sales.I picked one up last year that has changeable tips;the Allen wrench for GM distributors and a straight slot screwdriver tip(don't know that application)still in the original packaging for 50 cents.I still have three cars with points.
you can still find em... the flex shaft driver handles... when you ask at the parts place, ask for a carb/tbi adjustment tool. they SHOULD still come with the hex head as well as a sloted and phillips
Tell us more. I have a Fluke 83(?) that is always in the toolbox. The dwell meter is in the shop...up on shelf...not accesible when your pals need it at the swap meet/cruise/car show.
Here in little ol' Las Vegas there is at least one dwell meter a week on CraigsList...especially with old mechanics retiring...passing on...estate sales....guys out of work.... dj
