I've been carving out the pieces for some swing pedals. Got the master from rock auto. They have good prices and havent dissapointed yet. I used some 1/8th plate for the brackets. some round tube with 1/2 ID a 1/2' X8 bolt and some 1/4 inch for the pedals I'll obviously split the the round tube Also got going on the firewall reinforcement. I even found some numbers on the firewall. Maybe they will help with registration Thanks for looking
i bet if you weld some of the pipe to your pedals it will take some play out of it and take longer to wear down
The earlier Dodges have the flatbottom windshields which have posts mounted through the cowl with a threaded shank. The later ones have the slightly curved bottom windshield with similar mounting through the cowl. The flat bottom ones are a perfect fit on the cowl of 23-25 Ford T roadsters and tubs for a different look.
Just thought I would keep my build thread going. I have front and rear suspension tacked in place. I worked on the brake clutch master today and got that in place. temped in a tie rod to get the spindles straight. My intentions are to use a mopar box for cowl steering. Space is getting tight behind the dash. So im really going to have to get creative, or do something on the other side of the firewall
Today I started on the F100 front brake conversion as described in Randy's thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=5877 I did this on my last project, but never from the beginning. First I marked where the 37-41 spindle interferes with the slave cylinder of the f100 Grabbed a carbide burr that I had Hogged out the spindle enough to clear the slave and the brakeline. About 10 minutes per side The metal is soft so its relatively effortless Everything fits like a glove. Ill continue with the hub next time. Thanks for looking
Scott, The steering is looking good. Keep us posted with the updates. Guess I need to find one of these boxes for my Modified. 41 Dave
Since my last entry I have made quite a few changes. My plans for cowl steering went out the window due to space constraints. I am using 56 f100 box with a 57 f100 pitman arm, both supplied by HAMBers. Locally I found a freshly rebuilt sag 4 speed so I now get an extra gear.found a couple of aluminum slots at the local swap to mount the 8.20 15s on. My friend Mark from work loaned me a mockup block and I got it placed so everything fits. Ill need a hammer to relieve the frame for the fitting on the slave cylinder. I get a decent throw on the pedals. I dont know about exhaust yet. So everything is falling into place. Time to fab or procure motor mounts and trans cross member. Thanks for looking. All comments are welcome!!
Scott, Sorry to hear your cowl steering didn't work. I thought you had it worked out. Really like the look of cowl steering ! I will keep an eye on your build ! 41 Dave
Really looks good. Keep us posted as you work on it. Did you drill thru frame for steering or remove one side plate to open area up. Looks good. Much better looking the way you did it then a added bracket on top or bottom of frame. Earl
I opened up the side of the frame, Ill box it in and add a plate to the outside for strength. Also started on the trans cross member with some thick wall tubing and 1/4 inch flat Ill get that squared away this week, then start on some motor mounts
Today I fabbed up some motor mounts out of some 1/4 inch angle and thick wall round tube added a gusstet for strength. also got the trans cross member done earlier this week. I moved the engine forward about a 1/2 inch and solved a lot of clearance problems. I will need a remote oil filter because the filter will interfere with the steering box by a !@#$ hair. unless they make a skinny oil filter
