I am going with 40 drum brakes on front. I want to run wire wheels. I want to go with a tall wheel I have seen 18's and I think 19's. What year did they make them? And will I need to use a spacer ring on these? Thanks.
yes, you will need that ring 18" is `32 Ford , 19" is 30-31 Ford .....FYI, 21" is 28-29 Ford , 17" is 33-34 Ford , 16" is 35 Ford
40-48 ford solids don't need the spacer. All of the Ford wires need the spacer as far as I know. Dave
While tall wires do look nice 16's sure help get the CG down. Another plus to the 16's is you have less wire length from hub to the rim. But on the other hand a good 16 is three to four times as much. My HO for what it's worth.
Is strength a big concern on these wheels when running a V8? I'd be concerned about a hard launch on some of these skinny old rickety things. I'm guessing much of that would be alleviated by the fact that it's all wheels spin and no hookup but still.... do these actually hold up?
Sorry for intruding on the conversation. Is it true that a "32" Ford wheel had exactly 32 spokes on each rim? If so I think that is pretty darn cool.
Here is everything you should need to know about wire wheels. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113082 As for the spacer rings... I believe the author of that thread (Wheelkid) sells them.
that i don't know....but i do know that the hood hinge is 32" long on a `32 ford , and 33" long on a `33 ford
