I received a call about 9:00 last evening from John ***us, co chair of the Ford Picnic on June 7th at the Ford Plant in St. Paul, Minnesota confirming that there will be an area set a side for a celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the '33-'34 Fords in memory of my Dad. My Dad "Speed" Davis p***ed away suddenly and unexpectedly the morning of March 18th. He had a deep love for '33 and '34 Fords and had owned his 4 Door since 1968. The car was in the process of being rebuilt at the time of Dads p***ing and one way or another, it will get finished in his memory and stay in the family. Your welcome to p*** this on to other local '33-'34 owners but I do need to know that they are coming, so that we can get some kind of count on the number of cars that will be there. I would like to see some of the seldom seen '33-'34s in the area come out of hiding for this event. All are welcome, no matter what condition they are in. Thanks. Jim Davis
I want this one to go back up to the top. -Speed was a true hot rodder. He will be missed. He taught me a lot of things about four cylinders, Cords, and had quite a few racing stories about rolling cars on dirt ovals back in the 40's. He was an amazing resource for information and one of the nicest people I have ever met. -Mike
Thanks Mike. As of today, we have 22 '33-'34 Fords that are coming for sure. Several of them are 4 Doors which Dad had a p***ion for. Dad was kind of like the proverbial car that can't get by a gas station without stopping. You couldn't walk a car show with him and get by any '33-'34 Ford without checking it out. He bought his '34 Four Door in 1968 for $325 and finished the first restoration in 1973. I spent most of my teenage years in this car and my sister, 10 years younger basically grew up in the back seat. Dad was in the process of rebuilding the car and we will be finishing it in his memory. The car stays in the family. You did not have to know my Dad to attend this gathering. It is still a 75th Anniversary gathering, now dedicated to my Dads Memory. So, if your close enough have a '33-'34 Ford, stock , modified, or otherwise, please join us on June 7th. Some of the things I've heard about my Dad since his p***ing are "Everyone Knew Him" "He was A Legend" and "I Learned Alot From Him" He is deeply missed by his family and countless friends. Jim (Speeds Son)
Thanks for the kind comments. Wlll be taking Pics. Up to 24 cars for sure as of this morning plus another 10 or more that could show up.
Unfortunately my 33 Fordor is a couple years away from being on the road or I'd bring it up. Hope the weather cooperates for you and the turnout is good. Take and post pics!!! Is the Ford Plant in St Paul still in operation? Is it still the same location as it was in the late 20's? Is it anywhere near the fairgrounds? The reason I ask is that my '29 Coupe came from the Twin Cities plant. I'd like to maybe check it out when I'm up for BTTF's. Do you know of any websites that might have the history or old pics of the plant from then?
I will look forward to seeing your '33 4 Door when you get it done. We Plan on taking lots of pictures and posting them. Yes, the ford Plant is still in operation. Barely. It is not too far away from the fairgrounds. Henry ford picked this spot himself in 1928. I'll be glad to tell you how to get there, it's pretty easy. I can also introduce you to someone who worked there if we connect at Back To The Fifties. July 18th, they will be running some "T"s and "A" s on the ***embly line as they did two years ago. As far as websites, I would investigate Minnesota History Center, Minnesota Historical Society, and Ramsey County Historical Society. You'll probably have to do some research on each sight to find what your looking for. Good Luck. Jim
More curious than anything else & not trying to start a fight, but why is the '34 Ford getting the 75th b-day bash and not the '33. For that matter, if it's just the style, why not the '32 Ford Model-Y (produced in Europe - the first "model-40")?
My first question to you would be, Did you take the time to read the whole thread????? The '33s are included!!!!! This is dedicated to the memory of my Dad who had a p***ion for '33-'34 Fords and was well known around here. I don't know that much about English Fords but if as you say, the '32 Model Y is the first model 40, I have no problem with one attending. Just don't think anyone around here owns one. Jim
Considering the cold and cloudy weather we had here in the Twin Cities on June 7th, we had a GREAT turn out of Thirty '33 and '34 Fords for this special event. I have some GREAT pictures of this event that I would love to post but don't know how to post them. Can someone give me detailed directions on posting pictures Thanks. 1933-1934 FORD 75TH ANNIVERSARY GATHERING ll From 3:30 to 6:30 on Saturday, July 18th 2009, all '33 and '34 Fords are invited to tour a very interesting private collection that includes several '33-'34 Fords.
