    Hi guys,
I am just about to start a project for a friend, next week.
Its going to be a all steel 1932 5w coupe.
What we have is a 32 fordor body that is the donor car, as well as new replacement quarters and floor panels, etc.
If any of you have done something similar or have body specifications and measurements at hand I would appreciate hearing from you.
Or have some close up shots of the rear roof and qtr ***embly arears.
I have seen some threads here but have had no success in finding any threads along these lines.
    many thanks in advance

I have seen a thread on here where a '34 underwent a similar conversion somewhere in england but that's about all the help I have. Good luck.

Here is the link to the 34 fordor conversion.

I think it would help if you could trace the rear quarter window opening of a real 5 window as a pattern for the conversion. I have been looking at 4 door parts to fix the quarter window damage on my coupe, they are different (34 coupe). Maybe one of the guys on here with a real coupe will trace a 32 window opening for you?

Your best bit is to find someone Down Under and take measurements on the the real thing up close. You must have a national Street Rod or Hot Rod ***ociation try finding someone not far from home and take a look at their ride.

    CRUISER

  5. Sell the whole back half of the fordor to buy a 32 5w roof. Dont know how hard they are to find. You would already have a cowl, front doors, quarters, floors, so instead of cutting the rest of it up sell it to someone who wants a fordor and use the cash to find a 32 5w rear roof section. They are out there. Besides. Im pretty sure the subrails are completely different anyway. You can buy a brand new set from mcpherson auto for 800 i think.

  6. They may be out there but definitely not here in Australia!!
I would look at a Ken Brownlee 5 window body, Im sure there are some over west. They are pretty accurate.
    Doc.

  7. I stand corrected. Didnt see that your from down under! My bad...

    Hi guys
    Thanks for the immediate response.
I first should apologise and clarify the situation.
Yeah, I am from Oz, but for last few years I have travelled the world working on some fanatastic projects and the last but not least is,
......Mexican Merc 50, here on HAMB.
I am currently in Europe ready to start up this project for a client in Italy.
So getting access to some other 32s or reference material is somewhat on the hard side. Or even still some 32 panels of any sort.
So any info you guys have all the better.
    thanks

    Tom,

I'm guessing as you say in your first post that you have replacement quarter that they are brookville or similar roadster rear quarters? FYI their not the same as 5 window. I thought they were two until you have the two lined up against each other.

the length between the door opening and the wheelwell is different as is the wheelwell opening, the roadster has an 'eyebrow' over the wheelwell, the 5 Window has a swage line. check the photos below it will become obvious.

not wanting to rain on your parade but help you out some.

    cheers.

you can see the eyebrow over the rear wheel here

look at the last photo, I also forgot that the belt line is alot fatter on the 5W. Its going to be a lot of work to make one into the other. but I guess its only time.

Pretty old thread ;) From when Tom was a newb, lol.
Funny that this is still valid, noone is making reproductions yet?
Prehaps getting a plastic one as a reference and then banging a new one out of tins, cand and beer cases, I know Tom could do it :D.

    Thanks Harley,
Yeah I will just have to make a new one out of various original body panels.
Some parts will be repop, but the top end will be all original metal.
    thanks

George Poteet had a coupe built with roadster quarters, just to be tricky, but it worked well.

    G day mate
Good to hear from you, I thought you had popped off somewhere.
How is MY.... Sloper coming along.
Yeah, I too liked the George Poteet coupe, very nice styling with the roadster rear panels installed.
This is the style I am on planning on, given there is no 5w coupe rear quaters on the markets as yet.
I can make them, but my time is short as I will need to get back to Mexico soon and start up again on the Merc..

Basically, what I am planning on doing is cut and fab out the rear roof section of the fordor to duplicate the 5 window specs, and then marry up the rear qtrs and floor subframe from the roadster repops.
Off course along near original specs.
I just finished off an 30A coupe with the brookville rears for my friend in Perth and this came up really good.
    catch you soon
