What is the max dia of the front brake drums for my 1939 to 1942 drum brakes? I had them turned at the local parts store, but he had no specs, and I had nothing to lose. If they are too far, I guess I will need to start with new.
Actually I do believe Ford's orignal specs were 12.090 . If you are running a full body'ed 39-48 car thats as big as I would go, under 2000 lb roadster etc. you can get away OK .110 over . Modern specs is .060 thanks to the Feds saying that is the way it will be not taking into account actual drum construction etc. Just easier for them to give a flat number.
A .090" cut will put the bottom adjustors close to their limits typically.....060" would be better if you can get away with it.
Thanks for the input everyone. I will drag these to work tomorrow and have them measured. I am picking up all the brake parts this weekend at Thompsonsgarage.com in Cincy Oh. I hope to not have to buy drums right now too.
