Has anyone in WA had to get one for a homebuilt vehicle? I know what I have to do for it... just wondering if anyone else has been there first? Maybe has some tips to smooth out the process? Project is a 32 Ford truck cab on a 55 Studebaker frame/drivetrain...
A friend of mine did with a vehicle in TX. They got the body from a yard that gets all GM's damage in shipment vehicles. Frames are cut up and vehicles have never been ***led. He just had to have a receipt for everything on the vehicle and do***entation of where the stuff was bought. Think you get a builders ***le it's called. Pretty common with custom bikes I think. Maybe check with some of those guys in your area..
I haven't read up on the rules for a number of years, but you'll need receipts for everything (or all major components). One of the things I would check up on before going too far, is what year is going to be put on the ***le when done; if it is this year 2009 (that it is completed and licensed as), you might want to go a different direction because of emissions checks.
I know in Va you need bill of sale for body, frame, engine, and trans. It is ***led as what it most looks like. Dont count on DMV for help.
Indiana will ***le it as an '09 (or whatever the current yr is). All you need is reciepts (they nail you for taxs on anything you haven't paid taxs on, so watch what reciepts you take!)
l'm in washinton and when l wanted to do my gl*** 29 A ,,,, l called the state patrol and was told to call the dmv,, l needed bill of sale for all major parts, if made by someone [company] a manufacturing statement, nice thing about wa st is you can licence the car as what it looks like,, for instance if you build a 32 coupe kit car the ***le will say 1932 ford coupe replica car .. have the state send you the DMV codes for kit/home made cars,, l did and its invaluable to have this info,, also have them send you relivent RCW codes on the states laws or call ,, the phone ## in olympia l have is 360 753 3697.. l had them send me a copy and mine came from /// washington state patrol-equipment and standards review unit- po box 42614- olympia washington 98504-2614// some of the rcw can be founf at the libary,, ,, RCW code 46.04.251 is a good starting place,, RCW 46.12.450 deals with ownership and registration,,also RCW chapter 46.37 my copy is 2004 so get the updated ones as **** changes and they do not tell the public,,,, hope this helps
Thanks for the good info. I knew it was a little more complicated than the contractors at the DMV mentioned. I'll be sure to share what I find as well. Any other experiences are appreciated if someone would like to post!
Go through a ***le service and punch your own vin. Its that easy. Inernational ***le Services is a start. Then you will actually have a ***le for the cab that you have or the frame that you have. Id find the vins for 32 Ford trucks and pick a random one. Chances are slim to none that the same number will be around anymore. Its painless and the department of licensing will give you your temp plate and in 2 to 3 weeks you will have your plate and ***le. NO INSPECTIONS OR RECEIPTS NEEDED.!!!!
