So VonZacho is computerless tonight, but were trying to identify his steering box. It looks real familiar to the 48-52 Ford F1 box, but it has the pitman shaft of the 53-56 box. The shaft is half splined with a notch for the bolt. I can remember the 48-52 box pitman shaft is spline all the way around. Can anyone post up some pics of different ford boxes so we can identify this box and order the right rebuild parts for it? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

The gear box casting will have a part number cast into it if it is a Ford part.
It will have a prefix, dash, 3548, dash, suffix.
That will get you started.

3580 is the base number for the steering gear housing cover which has the adjustment screw in it. The complete number prefix etc. would help.

I don't remember which way the shaft was configured on an Econoline, but it is the only other box I can think of with a pitman system like F 100.

I was going to mention that too, Bruce. But he says it is similar to an F1 box and the econo box is quite different in outward appearance. It has a very short sector and the mounting flange is actually on the side of the box. Is it an F100 one?

and its for a 1960 f100 nice box sort of like a f1. the f1 has a nut holding on the arm

Ya, this one requires the bolt through the top but the mounting flange on the box looks real similar to the 48-52, which is splined with a nut. I didnt get a chance to talk to VonZacho today, i was busy workin on my own ****! Ill get some info soon, maybe a pic.
