Hi a noob question- I need to pull the head from my wifes '62 comet (busted exhaust manifold bolts by prior owner). It's a 170. I have pulled the exhaust manifold, all the head bolts (12) and the rocker shaft and pushrods. This thing will not come off! I've knocked it good with a hammer with no result. I have maybe a 1/16th gap - but that is all I get. I did a search here and saw the fella who made a jig to pull it off using a plate and bolts. Since this does not have studs, I set up my cherry picker and tried to pull it from the rocker shaft bolts and it just lifted the car. Am I missing something that could be holding this head down? Is there another trick to try? I apologize for the newbie question, but I'm running out of ideas...
I suspected I was missing something... Do the little studs on each extreme end of the head (p***enger side) where you can attach battery ground (for the front one) go all the way through to the block? I can't see where the two hidden bolts are, if these are not them...
that would be them. if for any reason it still won't budge, hit the starter switch, and cranking compression ought to pop it loose.
