Yes you can ,we do it all the time ,

Get rid of all the computer stuff(intake $ carb)

  3. Yes, if you want to make that giant step backwards in technology it's about as simple as an intake swap.

You'll need the older HEI (non computer) and a switch to control the converter lock up. Or get the kit and non lock up type converter.

Yes, Just done it and now have a running car. Have diagram to show how to do the lockup on the 700R4, Its just a relay and a switch.

Actually, I remember reading somewhere that you can still use the computer HEI, just leave a few wires dis-connected.

It'll require a TV cable and bracket to control the trans, which is readily available from the aftermarket shops.

The TPI is ugly IMHO, but I'm willing to admit it is [or at least can be] superior to a carb.

Could be but it would be stuck at base timing . Yeah and the TV cable. I'm finally ready to ditch my 700s .

That's my policy. When I don't undersatnd something or know how it works, I just throw it in the trash and put something toether with duct tape and bailing wire. I'm sure my version is better than whatever thos engineers came up with

Yea that TPI setups was not the best looking unit out there. And it seriously runs out of breath at around 4500rpm. I remember I guy i went to high school with had an 89 iroc-z. He thought it was the fastest thing on 4 wheels. Took a few months for us to run into each other (i was in my 64 in my avatar, 355 sbc, 200cc dart heads, 10:1 compression, pretty wild cam, 100 wet-shot nitrous plate, mickey ET streets, 2600rpm lockup converter and 4:56 gears). One night he found me at a red light. It was over by 40mph. Poor poor TPI. I think he put a carb on that pig about a week later, even though it didnt do him any good....Hahaha
