Check it out. I got tired of the incorrect orange (plus it was flaking off) because it wasn't high temp paint...(I didn't do it the guy i got it from did) Anyway, I used Bill Hersch Chevrolet blue, and aluminum for the exhaust / manifold. Before: After:
not bad,...not bad. is that a 235 valve cover? my 54 has 4 bolts on the outside....my 216 has the same valve cover with the bolts on top (same air cleaner too).
Well I believe that in 52, the 235's had the center bolts, and in 53' they went to the 4 bolt on the outsides. I looked up the casting number and it came up 1954...I have no idea. who knows what they did back then! It has the powerglide and all powerglides in 52' came with a 235, the standard 3 speeds had 216's.. It runs good, gets lots of complements, got in a mag, and its a daily driver so I don't really care either way.
Lookin good! I see you changed carburetors. What kind is it? A Carter? I just snagged a NOS Carter YF 3211 on Ebay for my '58. Hoping it doesn't leak like the "Rottenchester" BC does!
Looks way better. Just clean up the wiring clutter and you got yourself a nice lookin engine compartment. Get rid of the wire nuts!
Great job!! Surprising what a little paint, and elbow grease will do!! I am going to have to do something with mine!! Just looks to much my age, under the hood.lol Shadetree
They beat me to it. Nothing looks nicer in an engine bay than a well thought out wiring route. Great looking mill! Now make the rest of the engine compartment nice enough to do it justice.
the 4 bolt valve cover came out in '54. Going by the casting shape between the spark plugs, and the short side cover, you have a splash oiler 235. The car must be an automatic? The stamped code next to the dizzy will tell you what it is for sure. Looks like a '52 235 to me... Nice paint job. Not to rain on the parade, but if you were trying for correctness, I believe the first blue engine was the '53 car with poweglide. Everything else before '54 was gray.
Yea it might be a 52' 235. If it is then it might be the original engine and tranny. That would be pretty cool. I know that blue is not correct for 52, but I like it. I'm not building a museum piece anyway. The cloth interior is new and not to 1952 specs either, also I put in new carpet and its just plain old black carpet. The grey engine would just look boring..
Damn nice job, now paint mine!!http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m177/49Cosmo/inexpensivewater-alcoholinjectionsy.jpg
Its funny you said that. Just painted it blue today. Also touched up a few spots that I missed and zipped tied the wiring too.
