I recently acquired what I have to call a "barn find". This '57 Corvette appears to have been drag raced in NHRA's long defunct BM/SP class. The car has been sitting in a garage in Michigan for over 30 years and the former owner's widow couldn't recall where her husband bought it. No engine or trans came with the car and it has no evidence of ever having a roll bar, traction/ladder bars or straight axle conversion. No "racing" body modifications either. One of the former owner's buddies thinks the car may have come from Ohio. Has anyone seen this car before? Any history, old photos or prior owner information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I wanted to add another photo of Corvette to show that before I bought it, the previous owner had begun the paint stripping process on the front end. Same with the trunk lid. The hood that come with it was a stocker, also without paint. Don't worry, it is not going to get a NCRS type restoration. My plan all along was to keep it a vintage hot rod with some old speed equipment I have collected.

it's fucking cool either way. what do you do with something like that though? you planning on restoring it to it's racing days? seems almost like a shame to do anything but get it running/driving.
really cool little piece of history.

What to do with it is the question. If I could confirm some former racing past, I'd consider getting the car running as it once was. Otherwise, I have some early '60's speed equipment that I want to use with a '62 327. We'll see what information gets posted. Thanks!

Yes, I agree. Leave the paint as is, build a old school 327 with 2 fours. The car will draw more attention than any trailer queen! You have found a true 60s hot rod.

Agreed, you HAVE to leave the paint.

I'd quickly scrounge/build a 327 4 speed, drop it in and be driving that sucker to work!!!

i would put money on the fact that there are probably pictures of that car on the Drag race picture site, the one you have to pay to enter ( like a porno site  ) .they have a few hundred thousand images posted up and surely someone vhas a pic of it.
    Is everything else there?

That is just to friggin cool! Polish the paint up a little, drop a hot 327 back in it and run the wheels off it!!

Please don't ruin its history though.

Really nice score, congatulations. I noticed the Cheveland script on the quarter, and I don't know if it means anything, but there use to be a Chevy dealership in Fairborn Ohio ( I think they are in Vandalia now ), called Smedley's Cheveland. Of course Cheveland may have been a name alot of dealers used. And as far as the paint, PLEASE leave it the way it is, it looks just awesome.

If you leave it alone and get it running, someone will know about the history...

At least you knew it is a city or state. Better than a lot of the burnouts that live here.
