I have what I believe to be a '53 Pontiac Chieftan. Supposed to be a Canadian version. It has Chev taillights and front & rear fenders and grill but Pontiac trim, script, hood and interior components. Serial off cowl tag is 3203728601. Model off same is 20-37D. Body code is 1168. Paint 374 and trim 547. Engine code off same is W250245. Head number embossed in head is 3695451 and block number stamped on lower pass side machined flat spot is 464329. What is this car? What size is the motor? I'm at a loss for info and can't start looking for parts yet. Any help and info links would be greatly appreciated here guys. Thanks.
You have a '53 Canadian Pontiac. Mechanically it's a Chevrolet except the engine could be either the Chevy OHV or the Pontiac flathead. The trim is a combination of Chevrolet and Pontiac components. The current issue of Collectible Automobile magazine may be able to shed more light on it, since few of the Pontiac books cover the Canadian differences in detail.
Engine is straight 6. Yellow with single carb& exhaust on same side. Child of the V8 generation. Straight's are new to me.
Don't believe they got the 261 until 1955 or 1956. Unless he needs pistons/rings it won't make that much of a difference.
Went on Fel-Pro website and they indicated that the '53 Pontiac Chieftan had a 239ci engine. Is there a website or association that might be able to run down these numbers? I'm currently unemployed and can't afford to buy the wrong parts. Thanks guys.
