I was thinking I missed that too...
I wouldn't even build on a stock Model A frame.
Its pretty easy to make one horsepower per cubic inch nowadays with a 350 Chevy.
You just don't have to use them all at once!

Dont matter if you have 800 horsepower . That "A" is LIGHT , she dont weigh squat , so 300 horses dont mean nothin if you cant hook it . Id go for about 400-500 and the rear suspension and tires to make it grab . So what if it isnt traditional to hang the tires from a stoplight , Its fuckin cool and thats all that matters lol.

I am the wrong person to ask if 300 hp is to much in a coupe. In my opinion it is mild.

If you do indeed have a stock frame and a 300 hp motor...then when it get all twisted and ruined...call me cause i have a stock frame you can start over with... On the other hand since its for his wife...maybe he doesn't like her :~)

I'm only gonna run a little over 300 hp in my 30 and I'm having a 32 Dirty frame put under it...cuase i don't want to have t worry about anything going wrong...

Good luck with what ever you decide...

This is a good point some times hp can open up cans of worms. But 300 still sounds mild. My 2 cents

300? pfft...i'll have over 500 at the wheels with the 461 olds in my tudor. also have around 600ft/lbs of torque all going through a switch pitch 400 trans. i am going to be running good brakes though and doing my best to stay outta the long pedal.

Only thing disk brakes have over correctly adjusted drums brakes is the ability to stop repeated times from high speeds. One time good drums and good discs are the same. Biggest problem is keeping both from locking up and sliding. Come on guys, that is what anti-lock is all about. You get best stopping power at impending lock up.

Power, never too much! Just learn how to use it.

    WHO could resist though?

    Heavily boxed and X'd...

    No wimpy here.

Thanks for all the advice. I do think I'll stay with the 307 for now, its an easy swap out later if we decide its too feeble....

Safer to go with less HP since the stock 307 will be a warhorse in a little fenderless Model A anyway. No point in making something MORE dangerous than it needs to be. You'll need to back off to a stock 2bbl 283 when the kids get up there!

dam straight they light cars ! ! i almost wrecked mine today

  17. Amazing.

A guy asks a simple honest question and gets adolescent late nite bar room bravado about tunnel rammed big blocks for his "wife" to drive on the street in Canada....

I like the long throttle linkage throw idea..... with the 350 !

    Yup, I like horsepower too.....

Brake upgrade? I would say most folks are right about disc vs drum, but in my opinion the drums (well maintained) would be fine for rural/country driving.
But, livin' in the big city or lots of hiway/hi speed driving disc brakes are probably not a bad idea.
And ofcoarse the decision should have alot to do with momma's driving skills and thrill factor.

I think it's great that you've got one that will even consider driving a fenderless early car....... think about it.

For my wife's ride I try to make sure its safe all around and has enough oomph to get out of its own way and keep up with traffic.

250-300hp with similar tq is just fine and actually enjoyable, I know she doesnt want to wrestle with a car or have any "surprises".

Mind if I throw gear ratio into the mix?

Big difference between 4:56:1 and 2.73:1.

Set 'er up with something in the low 3's. If the wife wants a little more giddyup, swap in some 3.70's.

300hp in a Model A would be around my target if I were to build my own. One day I hope to do just that!

I'd personally go with discs, but that's just preference.

300HP too much? No. But you mentioned it's for your wife, has '40 brakes and bias ply tires--I'd just leave the 307 in it. It's gotta run okay with the 350TH and 3:50 gears. Besides, you can just tell everyone it's a 350 or 327 or whatever--they all look the same.

The motor I built for my 28 Tudor dyno'd at 514.8 at the flywheel. Big Block 460. I think 300hp will be nice. Not a god awful amount and will be decent on the highway. Are you running an overdrive? Whats your gear choice. I want mine to cruise all day on the highway running 2.72's out back, no o/d though mildly built c6.

Since it's for the wife put a bolt in the floor for a throttle stop so she can't get to crazy with it.

I would leave it up to the wife. My better half has crossed a few intersections sideways in a cloud of smoke, once on accident and about a half of a dozen times with a grin on her face. When Mamma wants to go, she goes.....

I myself would make sure the Whoa is there to match the Go. I would also be looking for a 327 to put in vs a 350, however that is me. It sounds like you are keeping the 307 for now, however are longing for more. I would swap it out sometime after she gets used to driving it and not mention it.
