So here's the low down... I'm rebuilding a 53 buick special.

She's gonna be a dropped custom. no airbags just low a ground s****ing stance.
I was thinking I would swap the frame and powertrain from a newer car. I want a car I can drive daily that handles decent and has some go without being horrible on gas.
Was thinking olds frame? or Impala? or would it be better to find something clip it and build a newer rear suspension section? If so what are good options that don't require me to be fabricating a lot of parts to make it work right or that would be more practical?

I'm really open to suggestions on this one

no need to swap the complete frame, just clip it with a later model car frontend and rearend. Then build a nice motor to go in it. Lots of people use late 70s camaro frontends, plentiful, you can bolt up a sbc and handle good.

Thanks! That's exactly what I'm going to do. I just bought a camero front end a month ago. Haven't got a rear yet or a new mill to replace the straight 8.

I have a nailhead but it's likely not going to be too good (in a car in a field) I know it has new heads but the block my be cracked and or seized. Haven't had time to get out there and put a breaker bar on the fly wheel.

I am looking into options for my 53 as well and came across this thread. did you ever get your build on the 53 finished? I'd love to hear details about how you mounted the Camero front in and what you used for the rear end. I am a newbie to all of this and trying to figure out my options. Some are saying I should give up on this old car, but it's just so dang cool.

  8. Robert, you are new. I would suggest respectfully you check out the rules around here.
This is a very old school place. Nothing newer than 1965 as far as cars, and
nothing newer than 1965 in parts or modifications can roll here.
This thread didn't be long here in 2009, and it doesn't belong here now.
Read up a little before you start posting and asking questions on off topic stuff.

look here at the rules to the site. I know you were directed to read them when you signed up but must not have done it.. I am going to lock this old off topic thread to keep it from surfacing again
