I was having coffee with my old gearhead pals and the topic of mid-50's Oldsmobile Fiesta hubcaps came up. Some guys remembered them with a chain-link or checkered pattern field behind the 3-bar spinner and others saw them as having a bunch of circles going from small to large. I only recalled the three "saturns" being there. Can anybody here remember what the REAL factory ones were ? Perhaps a photo ? TIA
Nope, circles going around are also factory and different then the ones with the planets. These are the ones I want really, really bad and will hopefully be a birthday present from my folks in June. A repo one
Denise...I figured you would be on this thread! Wasn't Santa suppose to bring those?? Were you bad????
Sounds about right to me.The 53 Fiesta caps are the hardest to come by;they have the planet(Saturn)in the middle and have a clear plastic globe over it like the horn ****ons. The 54-55 caps are the ones that were first re-popped and the originals have a removeable Olds crest in the middle whereas the repos are stamped as one piece. There is also a slight difference in height if you compare them side by side. The 56 caps had the 3 Saturn planets in between the flipper bars and the repos had the checkerboard pattern.
Denise - This hubcap store is still in Visalia, California last I heard. They have another big building in back. They do ship UPS. They know their stuff, I got five plain Olds wheel covers (Starfire?) for Carps and one Lancer for BobK about five years back. Carps covers were pretty good, Bob's had a couple of dings, but it was the best of 3-4 of them. I was there and got to pick through them and if you know anyone in Visalia that could pick some out for you that would be ideal.
I was gonna suggest Hemmings as well. Something weird's going on with the HAMB. Been having posting probs and now it's taking me off line at its own behest. Happens nowhere else....
I'm always bad but I still got Christmas gifts from Santa. I got two Coker WWW tires for Big Olds last year instead of the Fiesta spinners. Thanks for the info bud. I got one as a gift from a HAMB pal last summer and there is an Olds guy 45 minutes from my house that said he'll sell me 3 more. The guy is actually a friend of my Dad's so it will be easy for Dad to pick these up as a birthday gift for me in June.
Safariknut, I've never seen these. Always thought '53-55 were the same. Do you have a picture of the '53 style?
I'm pretty sure they are '55 Super 88. They look like the ones in Denise's pictures but without the flipper bars and thay have the Saturn in the middle. Best I can tell from all my reference material is that '54 cap was the same but with the Olds Crest. The 98 series cars appear to have the same caps but with the flipper bars. They needed only to be polished and repainted to look like brand new and next time I'm in Visalia I'll be paying the hubcap shop a visit. Just to see if the have anything else I need.
has anyone seen one of these before? they came with my car when i got it 8 years ago. i have never seen another one like it. i need 2 more if anyone has any.
There are two different Oldsmobile full wheel covers addressed in this thread. Fiestas are the ones with circles, The other ones are Starfires, even though they are incorrectly named fiestas in Mooneyes and other catalogues. Original Starfires have the Saturn logo between the flippers. Aftermarket pseudo Starfires have various background patterns between flippers. I am not sure but I think Fiestas were 1954/55 and Starfires were 1956 only.
I have a couple different sets , I just cant seem to part with. Does anyone know of a place that refurbishes hub caps??
My birthday is April 27 and I'm about ready for a set of Fiesta's too. when ever it's convenient maybe Bonneville in August?............Jim D
Perhaps you'll receive something in the mail for your birthday this week You are probably the most patient man I know. They will go out on Monday. Also, will I finally have the opportunity to meet you in person this year at the GG Spokane event in Aug?
Last fall a friend bought a set of 4 never installed Olds # 563962 '53-'55 Fiestas in the factory box with yellow & black print. They're marked "Lyons" ... I checked the dozen or so used ones I have, none are Lyons ... leads me to believe they were supplied by at least 3 manufacturers.
going from my 1960 olds master ch***is and parts book the ones denise has posted are the 50-53 cap with the crest in the centre, but I haven't seen them with the concentric rings before, the super 88 cap 50-53 look like a cadillac sombrero dish. the 54 55 have the N and S America continent in the centre with the concentric rings and the 56 have the 3 planets spaced evenly between the flippers. the flipper bars were only on the 98 models as standard every other model they were available as the 'delux' hubcap according to the book. the standard caps on most cars as in just plain 88's were just a dog dish that didn't cover the whole wheel I have photos of them somewhere, will dig them up.
If you're driving to Spokane just bring them with you and save shipping cost. August will be soon enough. Don't tease me about a birthday present, the last one's only lasted one day after friends found out lol.......Jim

The Saturn caps are stock, everything else is after market. Grid pattern Olds caps are called waffle backs, star caps. CRUISER
