Moved to Columbus, Ohio...any car stuff?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 38Chevy4door, Apr 25, 2009.

  1. We just moved to Columbus, Ohio from North Carolina. Any events, cruises, cool places to go? And, where can I get a decent burger, without a two-hour wait at Thurman's?!

Also, any junkyards nearby with some late 40s, early 50s vehicles...I'm pondering dash treatments.

I'm more into customs than rods, but I just need to see some nice old cars.

The bad news is there was too much going on to bring up my garage-full-of-parts-that- used-to-be-the-'38...The good news is Zman's working on it!!!

    Thanks,
    Steve

I personally was glad to get out of Columbus, but it served me well while I was there. I pulled a great solid 32 5 window coupe and a 36 2 door slant back out of Columbus amoung others, but I left several there for you to find. Mopar nuts hold their National meet at the dragstrip 30 miles east of you. There is a pretty good junk yard a few exits south of the city that several people here know about. Here are a couple of pics from that yard.

Dan's Drive In on south High street has some great burgers and general diner food. They just had a car show. Stop by High Street Tattoo while you're there and have Biggs throw some ink in ya.
There's a junk yard in Mount Sterling called Warner's. 71 south to route 56. Go east, can't miss it. Look for school buses. They haven't crushed a car in 70 years. Most of the real old stuff is pretty far gone but it's an amazing place to see none the less.

Mac's in the short north has killer burgers, and try a "scotch egg" unless your watching your weight.

You have 3 GG shows, INdy, Columbus and Norwalk within 3 hours. Billetproof Detroit will be a little father. Screamin Demons has their show in Toledo.

When I head back to Columbus I usually do not go for burgers so I can not help with that. Some other good places is Schmidts in german village, Mongolian BBQ in Dublin (sawmill & 161), I think there is a hoggies in Grove City.

What part of Columbus are you living in?

check out www.devildrags.com or www.roaddevils.com We have those two shows going on, tho they ain't in Columbus. One's up by Mt. Vernon, the other is out at Hebron just off of 70 east, close to Newark. Get ahold of us anytime. There's a handful of us in Columbus and a few on the outskirts of town. We also have some guys down in the Dayton area. Check out www.sinisterhotrods.com for a look at some of them and a few more shows/get togethers. We're all pretty easy going and family oriented. Just good fun, cars, and booze!

  20. Thanks, all! Sorry, I missed some of the posts!

    Big Somoan-
I'll scope out Jegs this weekend. I'm on call this weekend, so can't head too far out. I'll PM for a junkyard run in a week or so.

Me and a couple of guys went to Schmidt's for lunch...mighty good!

    Jman-
I've seen the Mongolian barbecue, thought to check that out, so thanks for the recommendation! We're in Dublin.

RoadDevilMiller- will check the sites and bug you!

Bustingear- I'll pm you, seeing someone doin' something is what I need! I went down to NC last month to check on the '38 and stuff, and I about aggravated Zman to death, just loitering and watching those guys do good work!

I knew about GGs, but wanted to get in the greasy groove before then!

I've got a lot of stuff to try out, now, thanks for the information!!!

    Thanks,
    Steve
