these are some very historic pictures of one of the fore runners of al the big races we hear about all the time . I made it to the first Smokers meet in Bakersfield, but that was in 59, 2 years after I read and heard all the stories about this race that was too far away to go to. This was definitely one of the earliest BIG Races we heard about at the time thanks for posting . Waldo

WOW! Really cool and I was there also! Some friends and I came up the river on a houseboat from Davenport, Iowa and tied up to a dock just across the highway from the strip. Those were some GREAT days!

This time: The 1966 "World Series of Drag Racing", at Quad Cities Dragway in Cordova IL....

Unlike the pics from the other day, these were taken with Dad's old Polaroid,
so, unfortunately, they have deteriorated quite a bit....
Still, some VERY cool old images though....

First off, thanks to Marty and his dad for posting these.

While it was not in Martys dads photos, my grandfather's dragster was there in 57 and I am very fortunate that it was retained and I now have it. For more info on it click on the link in my signature. Marty, if you or your dad stumble across any photos of the dragster, I would gladly pay you for a copy.

 

Great shots. Thanks for including the 2 Comp Coupes. I've got a ton of historic Comp Coupe photos but the Fiat and the Crosley are new to me.
