Picked this up at a local swap meet for 10.00... I have been setting it up against every vehicle I have to see how it looks ( Even the wifes honda ). I have no idea what it came off of or the year but i like it... Doesn't really fit anythingi currently own, but it looks cool.. I think I will save it for my straight 8 bobber build...
came off a Mack Semi, I always thought it would be cool on any old truck, esp. old 50's internationals and chevs.
Looks like it is in pretty decent shape;most of them get pitted pretty badly. The Mack truck dealers also used to sell cigar ashtrays with a gold plated dog on them.I had a couple but traded them off to a local cigar shop which is also where I buy my magazines.Good score.
Peterbilt guys make jokes about Mack drivers spending all day "staring up the a22shole of a bulldog". The best T shirt I never managed to get was the Mack anniversary T shirt that had a photo of a real bulldog in that pose and wearing goggles with the caption "Nothing breaks wind like a Bulldog". Looks like the ornament for an R Model Mack to me, but I'm not an expert.
If you want to set that up right for a hood ornament, mount it with an upright metal post a little bit behind the dog with a small metal chain going over to the back of his collar. Down, Boy! Later, Kinky6
Had a Bulldog on the hood of my pickup. Ran a windsheild washer noozle underneath between the hind legs. Created a very life like stream, was a great stress reliever in traffic after being cutoff.
My great-grand father had one of those mounted with the front legs sitting on top of the license plate on the front of his '32 Studebaker. Every time i see one it reminds me of how cool it looked.
Its defiatly an R model era part. The earlier ones have less of a chiseled look. If you ever find the 4 foot or so "glass dealer decorations, they are worth some decent $ to collectors.
