I received a phone call yesterday from Johnnie @ Reno Rod and Custom supply. He was wondering if it was OK to bring the recently finished Kookie "T" clone to Dewey. I didn't have to think very long before I said Hell ya!! Looking at the pictures, the build looks purrfect. I borrowed these pictures from the Street Rodder magazine web site...... Anybody else see it in Detroit? What do you think? Happy Trails, Mick
Yes i saw it mick, it was parked beside my caddy all weekend. look to the right in the pic , mikes shoe box was right behind that green car. yes it is nice, and norm was there acting as usual, and cracking everyone up. cant wait to see it again.!!
Heres my 12yr old(in Vans shirt)and his buddy with Norm by the KookieT at Cobo Hall a few weeks ago. And one of Norm chillin' by it. Was very cool of him to hang with the kids for a bit.
Krap!! I thought that he told me that you had already received your stamp of approval.... Yeah, I saw you guys....I didn't know if you guys parked next to Norm or if Norm parked next too you. I've not seen a clone before looking forward to ssing the crooked grill and the rest of the details that will make it more authenic. I bet he would let ya drive it if you were going to the show. Just trying to make ya feel better... LOL!!! Norm is very kool with the kids! Very kool pics. Happy Trails, Mick
Some I took last weekend at the OKC NSRA show. They really nailed the details, it's very near perfect.
Norm told me that the car was very well done and that he really dug it. That's good enough for me. Doc.
Probably only under one condition, that it be driven, and it has to do a burn-out. All cars have to have more than 5 miles on them, and the tires have to be worn.
Talked to Johnny at the NSRA in OKC and was very interesting conversation, and the car was the center of attention in the exhibit hall!
I never said it needed my seal of approval. I just thought it would be neat to compare the pics from the little pages with the clone.
I thought that you had to approve everything from that side of the state....ha,ha,ha.. Very Kool, I want to be able to say that I did that some day. I may have been a Kustom guy to long to pull that off.
I use to work for Johnnie and Doug at Reno. I remember when it was just a pile of panels. Most people dont understand how much time and research it took to build that car.
I can't imagine all of the headaches involved while doing the research on the smallest of details that no one will see. I was talking to Kurt McCormick years ago about the temptation to over restore one. He told me that the Alcorn Merc has a vent on the side of the rear quarter panel that originally was cut with a torch and just pushed in. When they retored the car they finished it off and cleaned it up like they should have. We were discussing is this over restoring? This is why I can't wait to see the "T" because I want to see the crude way some of the things that were done. That to me is part of what is kool.
Hey, I saw the car at the Okie City nats two weeks back. Looks great! Doug even had some info on the "Kookie" Burns guy. Always wondered what happened to the cat driving that car in the TV series when I was a kid. Doug and Johnnie @ Reno Rod & Custom are just down the road a bit from us and they are always very helpful with our current roadster project. THANKS GUYS!
I'm thrilled that the Klone is making the trip up to Dewey.... It is odd because we have a lot more T buckets coming this year. They must have felt that something special was coming to town..... Happy Trails, Mick
Lighting bug in Dewey, that would be kool. Would you call him for me.....ha,ha, I've not seen the car in person just the coverage in the rags. I would love to see it in person. I more out the utube videos...
