well my nephew asks us to attend his wedding in new zealand,so we book some flights(via dubai, bangkok, sydney)and were of to christchurch on the south isle,we have a 6/7 hour drive down to gore which is surprisingly pleasant as theres hardly any traffic, and what i thought would be a freeway was just a 2 lane road that went though every town,,now apart from a meet with russtee later in the week this was not ment to be a car/hotrod trip,,the first old motor i spotted was this devon pickup.

when i got to gore i found all this rusty stuff on the other side of the fence from my motel

I grew up a few miles north of where that first Austin truck is - it's been there for years.

It's so strange to see all that American iron with the steering wheel on the wrong side! If you import a car with the steering wheel on the left do they make you convert it or is it ok to drive it "American style" ?

Without opening a can of worms,
Here's the abridged version. If your toy is over 20years old, it does not need to be converted. Schweet!
If it is newer, you do need to convert it, unless it is your own personal transportation for more than 6 mths whilst you were in the states. Then you cannot sell it for 5 years without having it converted.

However, If the vehicle has been modified "significantly' (Some one else may be able to define the appropriate modifications) then it must be converted to RHD. It always has been illegal to build a car LHD for NZ.
So that '55 chebbie with the Art Morrison ch***is? Get's converted to RHD. That Trad model A on a Custom deuce ch***is? Convert it bucko!

I'll leave it there, because there are some changes happening, and some people who have , hmm, fallen outside of the legislation that have been caught up in a mess, and must convert cars they believe they shouldn't have too.

(Kiwi's feel free to correct me if you know better)
