My 59 Edsel needs some floor work.

It is an Arizona car and has the paint to prove it. It was sitting in someone's back yard for 30+ years until I woke it up a couple of years ago. While it sat, the RR window was down a couple of inches and it had a flat tire on the RR so all the water pooled under the rubber floor mat and the RR footwell is swiss cheese.

A 59 Edsel has the same floors as a 59 Ford Galaxie or Fairlane but that doesn't do me much good.

The problem is that I can't find 1959 Ford ford floor pans anywhere.

EMS and lots of others seem to make plenty of stuff for 57 and 58 cars but no floors at all for 59's.

From the volume of posts all over the internet from 59 Ford and Edsel owners needing floors, you'd think someone would make them.

I've found some internet chatter that you can use 1957 and 1958 floors in a 1959 but the 59 floor is longer and you must fab a filler panel to fill the gaps while the countours and stampings are the same otherwise.

I have a 59 Edsel, my dad has a 59 Ford but don't have any 57 or 58's to compare to.

Anyone have any experience with patching a 59 or input on this?

FYI: My son does think it's cool to see the road going by though the hole in the floor, however.

If you have a Left REAR floor pan in good condition and a Right Rear in reasonable condition, there is no reason why you can't take a flat sheet of sheet metal and make yourself a new one using a bead roller and sheet metal brake.

Pull the back seat, floor mats, and under mat, take pictures of both floor pans and compare the differences. Go down to Kinko's and have the picture blown up into life size copies and copy them out on to sheet metal.

I had to make a section of floor for my '59 Edsel, I used a '73 Cutl*** hood. But mine was just the area between the seat track and the rocker panel. I haven't found anyone who sells pans for these cars either, you might have to make them.

Got a picture of the damaged floor? How bad is it?

I'll have to eat more wheaties before I fab one from scratch.

I printed out the 57-58 Ford pictures from the EMS website and I'll crawl around a bit under the Edsel and see if they look similar at all.

  9. I saw a dozen or so '59s in a junkyard in D/FW.

I need a small patch for mine, and went to the local yard.
There sits a 1959 Edsel and 2 Galaxies.
I just need to go fetch a patch or two.

I really want the 3 speed manual to replace the 2 speed slushbox out of one of them.

I got the front and rear pans for my 57 Merc hardtop wagon from Cl***icParts4U. Nice stuff, and reasonable too. The rear pan is just the inside of the dished area. I had to fab around it and made my own toe boards.

  14. Concourse Parts show rocker and quarter patches for 59. Nothing for floors.

be sure you see what youy are buying if you are in the market for floor or trunk pans.

there are people out the selling flat sheet cut in the basic shape of the piece needing repairs with a few weak beads rolled in them. nothing at all like what is needed for a proper rpair... especially if your rust creeps up the sides of the floor pan like so many do.

stealing hard earned money from the unsuspecting public.

When I got my 59 about 10 years ago, my son stepped on the right rear floor and went thru.
I used POR 15 on the rust then laid fibreglas cloth over it and wet it down again with POR15

You can jump on it 10 years later and its still strong

POR15 and gl***. LOL thats exactly what I did to the front of the hood to cover up the rust holes. Just wanted to see if it would stand the test of time. Been over a year and no rust bubbles under the paint so far. But the floors are really bad. Maybe too far gone for the POR15 and gl***.

The 58 floor looks real close. Maybe close enough?

These are 59, but retract and vert:

Should just go the sheetmetal and carboard patterns route. I dont care about concourse correctness and would put the ole millermatic to good use. The cross braces under the floor are also shot but those and the rockers were not hard to find searching the net. Dang floors are like finding hens teeth.

    I'm bringing this back up...
I will be needing to replace my front and rear floor pans for my 59 Ford 2 door wagon soon...
Does anyone know if the New floor pans being made for a 57-59 Ford 300 are the same as a 2 door wagon? The pictures of them look very similar contour wise?
    Thanks!
