I was going to a car show this past weekend and a buddy started talking about a Divco on his property that he needed to get rid of.The price was right. FREE. . Now the problem was getting it home 400 miles with no tires. The tires are a really wide 6 lug military type. My buddy said no problem he'd haul it back in 2 weeks for the price of diesel,$150. Wow, so now I am feeling guilt so I'll give him an extra $150 for his trouble. The Divco is the really short wheel base (within inches of an S-10 wheelbase), all there only missing the head light rings and the Divco hood emblem. No rust issues and minor shot gun damage (minor). So I'm thinking its going on a S-10 frame or possibly Dakota frame. Any suggestions or photos that can inspire me.
Don't the Dakota's have a funky bolt pattern? Kind of almost like they don't have much in the way of selection unless you go new and billet that stuff? Might be wrong...
not to mention that the S-10 is narrow too. dakota may very well work, the 6 lugs can be converted to 5 lug, my 6 lug 91 has 15 inch wheels. Measure your divco and some donor rigs and find what suits your application best. Awesome find, by the way.
The S10 will be too light of a frame...built one before and used a 87 chevy frame we shortened..then narrowed the A arms so it would turn after lowering it...good luck
The Divco Truck on the back of last year's Frog Follies shirt was cool. I don't have a picture but it was purple with gold scallops and Cadillac hubcaps.
That Divco you got for FREE is the most desirable of all the models of that body style that was built from the mid thirties to the last model in 1986. That is the one piece body style with molded in rear fenders. The vin numbers may be located on the right visor area and/or right front top of the frame gusset. I have 3 Divcos. You may want to join the Yahoo group Divco Club or the Divco Club of America for more info. I wanted to keep the dropped floor in mine so I grafted a Dodge frame clip in front of the firewall. Here is a link to my Divco project if you want to see how I'm building mine: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/journal.php?action=view&journalid=6768
Just to let you all know I used to drive one of these and deliver milk before I went to high school. In Iowa we would leave the doors open at night so the truck would be cold on the morning. We would go in the cooler to get warm. Kept the coolers at 43 degrees. Felt warm when it was zero outside. ___________________________________________________________________ Like I told the kid, "Your music's not too loud, it just ****s and don't you think Tulsa would be a great place to have a national event!"
Nice Find! I bought a 1950 Model 15, looks just like yours. Mine was rusting real bad, so I decided to modify it. I am putting a modified 1/2 ton chevy ch***is under it. It has a 4" rear to 9" front chop and a extra 3" channel. If you are looking for some NOS panels let me know I have some.
