I read on another thread about a galaxie witha turbo axle. What the hell is it...it looks interesting.
Zach Reynolds "Tobacco King" <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8HwrJ23ZK-A&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8HwrJ23ZK-A&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Do a Search for Turbonique. You'll find a lot of Info. Here is one... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260208&highlight=turbonique
soo...its basically a rocket strapped to the back of the car huh? thats wicked. I wish i grew up in the 60s lol.
Yeah the car had had a 427 with a latham superchager THEN the Turbonique Drag Axle making another 850-900 horses, no rollbar, lap belts and DRUM BRAKES!!! Insanity on wheels and I love it!! The new Garage magazine (yeah yeah I know drama drama blah blah blah..I lost my money too big deal kick *** issue anyway) has a great article about Zach Reynolds and the Tobacco King. Great read about a truly unique and eccentric gearhead with a p***ion for all things mechanical and fast. Something most of us can relate to. And I do think Wylie Coyote would have finally ran over that damn Road Runner if he had the Tobacco King !!!

yeah it was supposed to be like almost 1000hp at the press of a ****on i was reading about those awhile back, pretty crazy lookin
Also at about the same time, there was a Turbonique powered gokart that toured the country at various drag strips. I saw it run once. Don't believe I'd have ridden it it, even at gunpoint.
NHRA booked the go cart into the Gater's in the early 70's. As we were leaving early to beat the traffic, the guy was making a p*** that went very wrong....so wrong he was killed. Funny, National Dragster didn't mention it.
Pretty cool issue.Great article about Zach Reynolds. here's a link to a short video of his car.Seems he actually ran it at close to 180 at one time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HwrJ23ZK-A I went to his estate sale and bought this bike back in the early 80's. He use to street race it at the Cabbage Patch before it became a "vegetarian emporium"
Howdy I seen one on a 64 chevelle in the late 60's at New England Dragway, Epping New Hampshire. It was powered by a 427 ,when he hit a 100mph the turbo Axel unit cut in,do not remember the speed, but it pulled a wheelie and smoked the tire's out of site, unreal power....................happy motorin Sandy
Yea you dont see those axels much. Seen one on Ebay about 2yrs ago. It never had a chance to make reserve, auction was ended early. It was only the unit. Did not have the quickchange axel with it.
The auction for the Ford was several years ago.It sold for $375,000. The owner got cold feet and bought it back.He had to wait until it hit reserve to start bidding.
That's where a fool and his soon-to-be money parted...375 large and he chickened out...??? What a fool...ain't no Galaxie worth that kind of money, no matter what stupid thing he puts "under" it... R-
Another cool thing about Mr. Reynolds is that he was a HAM Radio guy, and I believe that is what is on the lower dash. Do you suppose he wanted to have a chat with someone while launching the rocket?
Hi abone 1930, it is with a lot of pleasure that I see the pages I posted in the web back in 2002 when I created my website www.vwsupercharger.info being presented as one more source of information on a subject that belongs, no doubt 'bout that, to the roots of American Hot Rod heritage. I remember I put a lot of energy to write, edit and post those pages after I bought from the States a lovely Turbonique s'charger, NOS, and all the catalogs and do***ents along. I did a lot of research on the subject, I even wrote to the Town Hall of Orlando asking for information or any hints about the extinguished company ... I am not angry at them for not answering my letter ) ... One of the reasons that discouraged me from continuing the presentation in my website was that after a while I saw a French VW magazine publishing those texts (translated into french) and making the Black Widow story theirs ... of course, they did not mention the source or where they had obtained the images, buccaneer style ... you see, on top of having the brain the size of a pea, they compensate it by stealing other people's creation work and earning some few pennies on it ... sad ... Anyway, folks, I see that the Turbonique interest is up and this is the best reward I could have obtained from my contribution to the web common knowledge. Regards, Alejandro
