Just got six 1940 Ford wheels done, and nearly the entire center for half of each rim was left in bare metal. Last set i had done there came out completely coated, and perfect. That was over 9 years ago... Upon asking the 'guy' he stated "Well, i've been here for 8 years and we ALWAYS do it that way.. we strap them to hold them there, even on million dollar show car wheels...we ALWAYS leave the centers half done" WTF? He handed me half a can of gloss black spray paint, and was in no way gonna re-shoot them. Besides implying i was lying about the past wheels i'd had done, he had no other info to offer as to how they may have done it in the past. I'm just trying to hear from others who've had wheels done, and how they turned out. Shelling out $370 for what i consider a half ass job, then handing me a can of spray paint just doesn't seem right. So sorry for the gripe, bitching and complaining. Anyone had any other good shops in the SF Bay Area do nice P/C work? Any info appreciated....
There is a really good place in Lodi, Ca. I cant remember the name, they did some work for me when I remodeled an old house, and I had them do a bunch of exposed duct work.
sux bud, i did my friends here with the eastwood kit and they came out great. maybe someone close can help you out with it.....
I agree. Not a good idea to hand an unhappy customer a can of spray paint... Even if that's their way of coating a wheel, they should make it clear before it's done, and re-did your wheels to save a customer.
Try NorCal Metal Fabricators on 4th (?) near Jack London Square. They might take on out side work since fab work is slow.
They can't be that stupid !? I made my own holders out of shelf brackets and screws. You end up with 4 tiny pin pricks where the tips were. You can bake them standing up or laying down.
I used to use them. Used to for many reasons lets just say i dont use then anymore. Go to reliance powder coating see Dave tell him Dave with the funny mustache sent ya> I send him work I get a better deal I have been happy with his work his guys have messed up a couple of things but he re did it no question. Later Dave
Get in touch with someone higher up in the company and request that they be redone, With the way our country is going ,I'm sure the powers to be will be happy to keep a paying customer happy.... I have my fingers crossed for ya! And if that don't work get hooked up with the local TV channel and see if they want a human interest story....About being ripped off.........
Hmmmm. Bad job. I worked for a powder coater in Horseheads, N.Y. for about 2&1/2 years in all capacities....we hung ALL our wheels on 3 hanger rods (steel rods with hooks on both ends) from the center, thru the stud holes....whole wheel was painted inside and out. You chew up the p.c. or paint when you bolt them on, so the small bare marks in the stud holes was never an objection. We did touch up parts with paint occasionally as needed which is approved by the industry. Sounds like this company really doesn't want your wheel business...wouldn't get mine!
Heard a lot of cover up stories but this one is top shelf and total BS. They would still be in there shop if I owned them. I would never accept half ass work like that much less his lame ass story.
Thanks for the awesome support y'all. I will def look into some of the recommended alternatives in my area. Yea, i just kind of stood there in shock. The part that really pissed me off was him implying i "must have remembered wrong" from the last wheels they did for me. I needed the wheels ASAP, so i just took his crappy spray can and had at it. F**kin tip clogged after the first wheel.. go figure. You guys rule, thanks again for the feedback. Peef Out. -B
mass bro's suck i'v delt with'm trying to buy some powder for an "asap" job there a holes..... I bake out of a small little half a.. oven and i get the whole wheel 98% and they look great!
I think you got screwed! I have had great luck with Poly Engineering in Richmond, talk to Dan. their powder comes out with very little to no orange peel and they coat the entire wheel. Ed
