i have a 36 chevy truck with a model a front end,and cowl steering.the pitman arm is as close to the cab as can be,but when i turn left my turning radius is half of the stock stops turning right because my tire would touch the drag link before i get a full turn......if i put a slight bend in the drag link(an inch or so..)would that weaken my link too much?

    Yeah,
anyone know an answer to this?

I too am planning on bending my draglink. In my case its a cross steer set up on the front of my Fairlane....

Also, I've already talked to several folks about bending the draglink and they have all said that its no big deal. FWIW.
At this point I am planning on doing it.

As long as it's not too light of material, I wouldn't know why it wouldn't work. What would be heavy enough I couldn't answer though. There isn't that much force on the link. The only thing that would be of any worry, would be the compression forces applied to it when hitting larger pot holes with the left front. You could gusset it like the swing arm rear trailing arms that we run. These take the acceleration forces and have a coilover mounted in the middle.

with cowl steering there's a lot of force on the link....the bend would not be far enough to gusset....thanks yorgatron

  6. Can you lengthen the left front steering arm ? That will move the forward end of the drag link inboard but will also slow the steering down.

  7. My car hit the tire too... not a big deal if it does... it just limits your turning radius in one direction...

But if you want to bend it, go ahead and bend it... the forces on that rod are not all that great... the one in our dragster is bend downward to clear the header... about 2".

I'd just leave it and drive it.

it hits quite early...i don't mind reduced turning radius, but this is ridiculous! my cab is 5" wider than a model a cowl, and i'm running a model a front end.i think i'll bend it,and i also need wheel spacers in the front,so that'll back off the tire a little bit.thanks sam!
