i have a found engine block out of a possible ford, engine code 1g12a and can't pin down an id for it. before i s**** it i'd like to make sure it is only worth it's weight at the yard. any help would be great.
1g12a doesent look like a Ford part number. Where was the number located on the block, and why do you think it's Ford?
Check this website out, it may give you some help! http://www.bukisa.com/articles/15815_read-or-decode-ford-part-numbers
That looks like a date code. 1 = 1941, 1951, 1961, 1971, etc. g = July 12 = 12th day of the month a= 1st shift? Maybe.
no pictures... it is a v 8 possibly out of a mustang. the other numbers we got off it are dive 6015 aa. gonna try that website and see wtf.
That should be D1VE 6015 AA ("1", not "I"). A standard block (as opposed to CJ, SCJ, Boss, etc) used for 429's and 460's in Fords, Mercs, and Lincolns for several years, beginning in 1971. The date code confirms it to be for a 1972 model year vehicle. Not sure that you have heads with the block, but if you do: If you have D0VE-C heads, those are good. 72cc chambers. Worth a few bucks. If you have D2VE-A2A heads, not so good, at nearly 100 cc's. Near worthless. If you have D2OE-AA or D2OE-AB heads, very good. Those are Police heads. Worth pretty big bucks.
