What about Dog and Duck pub every other Monday night? There's also a cruise in Pflugerville every weekend and the Donut Gang's hang out in Oak Hill. There's plenty to do pretty much all the time.

My 1st Round Up & I loved it , I liked Texas in General I like the pride the people who live there have for their State. There are too many people in So Cal that don't give a rats ass about the USA let alone the State , ( & I'm fucking English ) I'm proud to be an American Citizen now & I'm proud to live in Southern California , it's just a pity this State is diluted with the don't give a fucks. Texas & Austin were a pleasure to be in & drive through. I witnessed the "incident " on Congress from above the Continental Club & as was stated the Police handled it with no drama , it was cool to see. I'll be back next year for sure for some more Texas cheer ( I like Lone Star beer & the Dales Pale Ale Acme John (non drinker ) gave me was the Dogs Bollocks.

    Cheers

As of now, I'm coining a new term... BTE (Best Thread Ever).

This is probably the best (and by best, I mean "gayest") thread I've EVER seen on the HAMB.

    BTE!

  6. Thanks guys for the feedback on San Antonio. I never realized it was such a f--en big city! As such, I know that entails more bad areas and crime. But I'd be buying acreage in the burbs to build a hot rod ranch so I can work on my shit naked if I want. I would think the "Compton-ness" factor would be less in that scenario.

I didn't mean to de-rail the Austin chatter, so back to your regularly scheduled programing! :D

  7. Oh and Ryan, I'm sure you're on to this, but as to where the hot rod scene started, I'd look into the music scene. As everyone knows, Austin has long been a hot bed for the up and comers in the music scene and hot rods and music go together like Dean Martin and martini's.

honestly i regret the impression i gave off. everyone that has replied to my tangent post 5 pages ago, already may know me... and to clarify my statement i would first like to say that most of you are stand up cats and i am in no way insinuating otherwise.

and lux, dude you are probably one of the people i have the most respect for.
    and mark ford you too.

however i am not saying anything about any individual or particular person.
only about the loyalty to the scene and the politics within the scene its self.
jesse james is totally at the top of my list of props for success. but its undeniable
where that scene has gone because he locked the back door.
to all of the really cool people in austin this "new" socal based scene is great and i
(a greased back cuffed lucky toker) too enjoyed it at first. untill i saw all of the fore
fathers standing there with a beer in hand going "ok" and telling a story and going home watching this "scene" steal the glory of what was their living. the scene has so much loyalty to its self and verry little to the history of austins hot rod culture.

in fact my closest friends are in the scene and they have been blown away when i show them of the photos i have of the dragstrip in oak hill and the days of when charlie mckenny was building turbo flatheads and when auggie hartcaugh(i bieleve thats how its spelt) was running out at temple these things... they are the period correct we all seek and then people like charlie machado get evicted and whos there to help... old timers thats who.

im not raggin the scene or anyone in it just the politics. and deny their role in this scene all you want but you know what im talking about.

I grew up in San Antonio, lived in Northern California from 69 to 75, and have lived in S. Austin now for five years after selling my place in San Antonio out by the Toyota plant, I feel its been a charmed life and I now reside in Paradise..going back and forth from S.A. to Austin(country cruise 281, stay off 35 unless your'e in a hurry) is like traveling between two different worlds..Austin is cool and hip, San Antonio has soul, history and Mexican food..I have met the best folks and made the finest friends ever in Austin. Gregg, you're comin back its only a matter of time..I have yet to be hassled by a cop driving some old bomb with funny plates, no stickers and certainly wouldn't pass an emissions test..The Edsel was on the side of the road in Lakeway and the cops were actually helpfull...

ok so i just saw jesse james responded to me.
maybe i could just pick on you so you could say the kind
of shit i like to hear more often. i love your response. its perfect!

maybe we could meet up and argue so i can actually have a good
    time once again.

    "not enough history."
thats because we dont have cali's history we have our own. small or
not its there and it deserves respect. if austin didnt have that
history, then why did everyone come here to join in on it.

oh yeah they didnt! they came here for their education or their 100k
a year job in technology or some shit. ran every one out with their
rediculous realestate take over. then realized they liked the way
we were and built better cars then we could afford as tradesmenon
our tiny budget. then that got the attention of thewhole country and
now every one comes here for the scene. deny that! some one please
    prove me wrong.

damn yuppies:D if you like cali so much go back. if you like austin then
help preserve it and leave so austinites can afford it again. fucking
condos, 5000$ rusted through model a bodies, 6000$ basket case
sportsters, and a larger police force.

    who wants to fight?

Hmmm... sounds like you have it backwards to me. I've gotten a million times more attitude from SoCal and Californians in general than I ever got from anyone from Austin or Texans. There's an old saying here on the east coast, "we don't care how the hell you do it in California." I usually just shorten it to fuck California. And I'm not jealous of your history or weather, I've had the option to move there a couple of times, hell no.

That's everywhere dude. We got that here as well.

  19. the other thing that consumes my life outside of family and cars is bmx. i have known of Austins pro bmx scene for a while its a meca for that ....to hear that it is also hot rod meca and cool city in general makes me want to move who could ask for anything more than to have a city thats known for 2 of your favorite things in life........maybe if the job thing goes south where i work you know "chrysler" ill consider AUSTIN

Seems like you're the only one looking for an arguement, or a fight. Maybe that kind of attitude is what's making you feel on the outside of the "scene" you talk about.

As far as proving you wrong about people that moved here for a job, or school, and liked your car so much that they built a better one goes, I can't. I can't because I can't think of even one person or car that I know that it applies to.

Are there a ton of people that have moved here in the last 5-10 years? Yes

Did they move here to go to school or take a job?
    I'd expect so.

Did that help raise taxes and real estate prices?
    Yes.

Do some people that you don't know have nicer cars than you?
    Sounds like you think so.

I can't really prove your point wrong, because you didn't even make a point. You've taken to seperate things and unsuccessfully tried to tie them together.

Anyhow, I don't need to argue with you about it. I've been here since right out of High School and my wife was born here. We love it and aren't going anywhere. You don't seem to like it so much. You can either get more involved and learn to like it. Or leave. Or stay here and not like it. It's really that simple. Austin is not going to change for you.

Stitch.......you are a twit. Are you not the fellow that begged to buy a '31 title I had laying around so you could get financing for a "hot rod" right before the 2007 round up? Same fellow that told me they don't make any parts for flat heads while I was looking up parts on line. And buy the way, education is what helps people not sound like a stupid shit (like yourself).......
