Color is down the road. I always start in black and white. My background is corporate branding and the logo needs to work on everything from a business card, to letterhead, to T-shirts, to hang tags, to labels etc. A lot of times color is not an option, so I like them to work in the most basic usage first.

You guys are coming up with some awesome input. Matt's logo will be even better because of it. Thanks!

Kirk you have done a great job with the logo so far. But I must agree with most of the guys here regarding the font. I thinkJimmyB/ SUHRsc's font looks really good with the look. When I look at the logo I also feel that the black border to the right of the logo (the black line between the car and the edge) is a little too thick...

Been enjoyable sitting back and watching you talented ones banter this thing back and forth.
I like the use of color better than B/W also.

Kirk, I like the rounding at the top of the crest. Before those were the only square corners in the entire logo, and they stood out like a sore thumb.

i really like the crest shape that jeem sketched up. Also agree with Kirk though in keeping good differentiation from Sellers logo (even though that look has been used many times back in the day.)

i'd play more with the fonts.

i also like the Seret on the top and speed and custom on the bottom.

you're onto something very good.... :)

How about trying it with lower case letters in the name (Seret)?

i think the simple box with rounded corners definitely stepped the design down a couple degrees. i dont like as much.

Looks good, but I think the smaller tire feels more correct.

none of them in my opinion.

keep the bottom nipple and round up the top ala crest style, again like jeem started to do.

I'm not a fan of a rounded top. It seems too expected and I like the strength of the harsh corners.

    To all,

When I design, I like to start somewhere (see the Art Deco comments in my first post). That doesn't mean I trap myself in that box. It doesn't literally have to be an EXACT Art Deco logo, just inspired by them

Good logo design means taking inspiration from something yet expressing the personality of the client. Matt is inspired by the one-off race cars of the '30s and '40s, but he doesn't limit himself to that one thing.

To me Matt and his business are: Skill, creativity, class, strength and diversity. So that's what I'm trying to keep in mind. Those things will mean something different to everyone.

Again, I'm super stoked with the input you guys are giving. Design is about inspiration and I have always been part of, and run, design departments where building off everyone's ideas is encouraged. Also, I'm used to non-designers giving their input and know what to listen to and what not to listen to. So for those who think I'm brave to post this here - I'm used to far worse.

I like what you did with the top edge of the grill in your newest ones. That was what I was shooting for with the one I did also, trying to give the grill some depth. The shadow under the grill though I liked the earlier version, it gave the car more shape to the nose and had that feeling of "roundness" to it.

Here is a little different take on the logo. The car is pushed out of the frame and the border reflects curves existing in the car. Good luck, too much help isn't always a good thing.

I really like this row here. Personally I like how the white at the top and base break up the logo. It caught my eyes the moment I saw it. I would be curious to see how the logo would look with the thin white line at the top of the first one in this row along with the speed and custom in the base of the logo.

Then again, I could be talking out of my a$$,

first one in line three is perfect!! the font goes with the thicks and thins of the car!!

  25. As far as the crest goes I like the first one on the last line with the pencil outline. If you like the square corners I think this one adds something to the overall look. To me without it the square corners almost look like you forgot about them with the outline it looks super sharp and crisp like they are meant to be that way and were thought out. But what do I know.

  26. I like this one on the right......maybe with three points on top, one each corner and one in the middle............

    Kirk-

If you like the sharp edges at the top, im thinking the one on the far left of these three is my favorite.

    Again, overall dig it....

  28. 1st one on the left gets my vote also.

I tweaked it a little in this version.....something about the black "border" on the rightof the car looks odd. Not sure if this helps or not...

Does that wheel have enough room to steer ?
What if the body was pulled in just a fraction, exposing more axle.
