I am getting ready to run the exhaust for my 50 Chevy truck that has a 350 in it, I am going to go from the headers to mufflers and then tri-y into functional triple lakes outlets coming out of my running boards. The problem is I want the sound of smithys on a sbc but need a muffler bigger than a 2" inlet and outlet as I plan on around 400 hp. What mufflers will sound similar to the smithys but with a larger inlet and outlet size, I want the old school sound and I don't mind if it's pretty loud.
cherry bombs? thats what i have and im over 400hp too. 2.5 from the headers out the back, no big tips. sounds real good, wish i had a sound clip for you
I bought some gl***pack "Bullet style" mufflers about 5 years ago from J.C. Whitney that have 3" ins and outs. They were cheap, but look and sound nice.
If you do a search, I believe I've seen mention of Smithys and/or Brocktones built either to specs or in larger inlet/outlet diameters. Cherry bombs aren't really the same tone, but they are still gl*** packs so I suppose it's the right ballpark.
ya ive never heard smitthys in person, or at least known thats what i was hearing. i just know that the bombs sound good on a 400hp sbc.
Brockman Mellow Tones are cool. They'll custom make a steel pack or gl*** pack with whatever inlet you need at a very affordable price. You can talk to them to figure out what you need. Good advice. People have said the steel pack sound alot like how the old (50's) Smithy's used to sound. www.brockmancustomparts.com
Smithys have thier own sound. Its not a cherry bomb sound. If you have alot of power i wouldnt run Smithys.
I run the 2 1/2" Smithy's on a dual quad, aluminum head, 400+ HP small block Ford and they work and sound great! Summit, Jegs etc all have them .
your signature cracked me up; <!--<spacer type=block width=25>-->"It must be a sad day for Tina Delgado,'' author-historian Don Barrett said of Mr. Steele's death.
