I had a car ,a 34 coupe that I built, that just did not want to stay fixed. It had overheating issues..I did everything to fix it, and it still gave me a hard time...it had hot start problems, but it went like stink when it was running well...almost the final straw came one night when me and my brother took it for a good long shakedown run after doing some fettling..it was running so good, we decided to go past our turn off for the road back home and carry on enjoying the ride...a few miles up the road, my brother said"can you smell burning"?..I said I thought so and also we were losing power....I pulled over into a layby to check it out, when the drivers side rear wheel arch started smoking real bad..I checked it out and just then the rear brake burst into flames(early solid Jag axle with outboard discs)..the flames were lapping all over the back of the wheel and over the fuel pipe outlet....for a moment I was so pissed off with it, I thought about moving back and letting it burn..I was just so fed up with the darned thing..about 10 seconds later I dived in the rumble seat and grabbed a large bottle of water and dowsed the flames..the disc was white hot and sparking. We sat there in the drawing darkness waiting for it to cool off..but it was well siezed...with no AA or RAC cards between us, my brother set off across a field to try and use a phone at a nearby farm.About an hour later, a real good long time friend and Hot Rod guy turned up in his car with a rope and a load of tools...by which time I`d freed the caliper off enough to be able to get the car moving again....we decided to drive it slowly(ish) and try to keep off the brakes if possible..Steve followed close behind, just in case...With it being equipped with a T10 4 speed manual box, it was possible to use the engine for braking..and I got it the 20 miles home almost without touching the brakes and using the handbrake a few times.

New parts were bought and fitted, and shortly after I moved the car on to it`s new owner..I kept in touch with him over the following years it was in his possession...and it never missed a beat for him...I`m sure that car was jinxed for me.

Good luck comes with bad. I didn't have a flat on the road in close to 30 years of driving, but when I had one a month ago, it almost got me killed.

Some projects go smooth and run forever. Some projects fight me every step of the way. Sometimes you just step back, have a beer, and get back into the fight at the next sunrise. If it has tits or tires, it is going to give you problems at some point.....

It was not HAMB friendly so no mention will be made of what it was but I have had one that just fought to the end! Thought it was a good buy but everything was wrong, shoulda known better then to look at it after dark. It had a crappy paint job, rust, trashed interior, wiring was just flat scary! Motor was not as I was told and cost me a fortune to straighten out. Never did drive the car! Some poor sole bought it off Ebay and had it shipped like 1500 miles, I didn't feel to bad but they were not happy with what they got....it was like I said it was though!

Funny thing is I think I had looked at the same car about 18 months earlier with a different owner, responsible for the crappy paint job, a smaller motor, and less money....

Loose on one, just make it up on the next 3?

Me and the wife had a 81 cutlass a couple years ago that looked mint. We bought it with only 29k on it. Every time I used it I had to fixing something. Left me stranded more than any car Ive ever owned. I still celebrate the day I sold the car. I hate that car with a passion!

  9. Had a Dart that would not let my wife (g/f at that time) drive it or otherwise associate with it. It had a '70 340 in it with the original 3-speed manual trans - fun car to drive! That is, for me, anyway! My wife would get in and drive it, and inevitably it would quit on her. I had to go and get her on four or five occasions. The funny part was, the car would start right away for me, and I'd drive it home trouble-free!

One time, she went with me to work, since she needed the car. I drove to work, she jumped in the driver's seat, and the car promptly quit on her! She moved over, I started the car, she slid back over, and it quit again. The little Dart hated her, and she hated it. She then refused to ride anywhere in it, and I ended up trading it (and a Dart parts car!) for a '66 Satellite ragtop AND a '66 Belvedere II ragtop!

    Problem solved.

    Ya my 67 Olds convertable.
It got "hit and run" three times and if that wasn't enough, I watched my wife slam it into a powerpole that was next to my driveway. She was coming home from work, it was icy, she hit the brakes and slid right into it. Being quite poor at the time and haveing a high deductable I fixed it myself. I used the same powerpole put a chain around it and the buckeled hood and pulled it out and the busted-up grill was replaced with one from a 56 chev..... looked pretty cool.
The attached picture shows the car right after I got it in 68.

Seems Like whenever I bought a car that wasn't a Ford, the FoMoCo gods threw a whammy at me.....Of course, the problem was, if it wasn't a Ford, it was a Chrysler product....I've owned three Chyslers in my life, and got my ass kicked on every one of them!! '89 minivan that ate seven transmissions in under 50k, Dodge Diplomat that NEVER ran quite right, and finally, my Dodge Shadow convertible, that even though it was garaged every day since new, shed it's paint in big peeling sheets! And Chrysler wonders why they're broke now???

Off Topic vehicle but I still have one, sitting dead in the yard. Bought a new 01 E250 with the 5.4 Mod motor. While under warranty the brakes were done twice (including rotors & one rear caliper), the radiator, 2 power steering coolers, steering gearbox, intake manifold, and now it's launched a spark plug from the head & just before that, the AC died. The POS doesn't even have 40K miles on it yet. If I ever own another Ford, it will not be newer than 1967.

  18. I noticed back when I was a kid, that if my vehicles were to break down that they'd only do so within a few blocks from home, perfect to coast home.
I've also had a few vehicles which other than being good cars, would completely fall apart, or...have 8 to 10 things break within a weeks time.
as if they were saying " Now it's time to let me die, junk me now."

Every car i ever owned for the most part. However one of my mild customs was like Christine my 1969 Lincoln Mark 3. Car caught on fire multiple times, lost the brakes multiple times until It finally burned to the ground.

Other rides i had were so crappy i think the more money i put into them to resurrect the car it fought me back so hard because it just wanted to rot and die.

    Thats life i guess.

im beginning to believe my '58 fairlane was cursed for a while.... in 06 when i had the 223 inline 6 in it still, the 3spd tranny gave out. so i decided why not swap a yblock in it? i think the second after i took that 223 out, the 58 got mad at me :( couldnt get that yblock started, couldnt find parts, money was being spent faster than the paychecks i was gettin at my job at kmart at the time... then the yblock gave out completley.. ugh so many problems with that thing! sat in my sisters backyard forever. havent driven it since early '08

1 week before my grandpa passed this past february, i had this eerie dream with my grandpa in it, i remember it vivdly, he said 'jason dont worry about money or finances, you'll always be set, ill make sure' and he was in his chair and he turned and looked out the window and i saw my '58, painted and fixed up. then i woke up.. he always helped me on that thing.

1 day after his death i found the nicest guy ever selling a 460/ c6, gave it to me practically for nothing, i became good friends with the guy too. im hoping the curse on that 58 is over now.... so far im having smooth sailing working on it. its back at my grandmas house, everytime i work on it i just feel like he's helpin me out. im anxious to finally getting it driveable again in memory to him. im crossin the fingers hoping its not cursed lol.

off topic: i also inherited a damn 2000 hyundai from my older sis when my 58 gave out. that thing was horrible, so many flat tires randomly, engine problems, fights inside that thing, it always made me mad too, my ex gf at the time even claimed it made her feel scared when she got in it. (all this stuff happened to my sis when she owned it, hence her getting a new car), finally one day the engine blew up while i was at the mall. i was actually happy. after that i fixed up a 63 ranchero that was at my grandpas house, drove that for over a year with no problems :)

Not so much a car as an engine. I could build a FE like nobodys business back in the day. My old 63 Galaxie used to put a hurt on alot of those factory muscle cars. I just couldnt keep one together. One 427 made exactly 3 runs at Detroit Dragway. First run to get used to it. Second run blew both head gaskets (should have seen those pistons I had in it). Third run destroyed just about everything. Since I got back into cars a few years ago I've gone back to my 1st love, YBlocks. Never blew one of those up. But I am building a short block for next year.......

I had an OT 1988 Suburban that was cursed. If there was a place for fluid to leak, it leaked. If I replaced reservoirs, gaskets, etc., it would stop leaking just long enough to let me know that I found the leak - then leak again. I rebuilt the front end twice, had it aligned I don't know how many times, and it still drove like shit. ETc.

  27. My '54 has been nothing but trouble. The guy before me mickey moused everything. The engine is like working on Frankenstein, nothing is from the same year and sometimes not even the same engine. I blew out the radiator and trans-cooler, which took five months to get the replacement in and holding the proper pressure. Then the timing somehow was completely off. In the mean time I found that one of the hood hinges is bent when it dug into the passenger fender. On the first drive after the radiator repair, the transmission let me know it was burned up by pulling itself out of gear on the freeway. The driver door one day stopped shutting properly and now I can't get it to line up right. The lug bolts are mismatched. Actually I found that one lug bolt doesn't have a nut on it since the thing is stripped out and too long. The one positive that has come out of this is that I've learned a hell of a lot about working on cars so far.

Cursed? Worn out parts aren't a curse, they're just a matter of fact with most old cars.
Let's talk really cursed. Bought a '67 Chevelle SS in 1971, and it was truly cursed. 30 days after purchase I got rearended by an uninsured motorist. Got my insurance to fix and repaint the whole car. 6 months later it got stolen, and when recovered it had been nearly totaled, but not quite, so another rebuild and total repaint again. One year later a guy turns left in front of me and that ended the jinx; totaled the car out.
Now that's a jinxed car! But inbetween all those it was so much fun that I decided to buy the engine and 4 spd. from the wreck, and save it for my '55 gasser. A year later and 98% done, the '55 was stolen, never to be seen again! Seems the jinx stayed with that engine and trans.
You got no jinx at all in your C10 truck.

Was it 2 tone blue???.....Cause I think I owned that same piece of shit!!....LOL

  30. I haven't had one yet, but my Dad has one. He purchased a '66 T-Bird new and had constant problems with the car NOT starting. Wouldn't turn over, dead battery, crank with no spark, you name it. Told the dealer to pick it up one afternoon because it was dead in the driveway. The wrecker driver said he had a "special" rig just for the car. So on the way to the dealership the car falls off the wrecker. And hits the wrecker. And now it has a jacked up fender. The dealership offered to buy the car, but the old man said pack it up your a$$ and fix it. They did and he still has the car today, less than 100,000 mi.
