Ok, I am going to change my 55 from 6 volt pos ground to 12 volt neg ground.

I pretty much have a grip on the whole situation except for the power windows and seat.

I want to think that these motors and relays are good enough tho make the change without issue, but I would like for someone with some real world experience to let me know if my supposition is right or wrong.

I know I will heve to "flip" the switches to make things right... and I tried a search but was not able to find a thread where this was covered, I looked through the 16 threads that my search turned up, I figure that this at least expresses some effort on my part.. :D

I bought a stock Ford step down for the gauges, and an 8 amp converter for other stuff.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I'm not sure of your question and exactly what you're asking.

Are you asking if the motors will work with the negative ground system, or whether they need the voltage stepped down to make them work?

I know if all you are trying to do is step down the voltage, you might check out an ignition ballast resistor from a Chrysler product. Hook 12v power to one side and you'll have around 6v out on the other. Just hook it inline with 2 spade type connectors.

The reason I suggest Chrysler is that most of them are set up as a dual resistor setup meaning that they have 2 separate resistors on the same block. This way if one should burn out or fail due to vibration or something, you just switch the wires to the other side and keep trucking.

If you're asking about the POS vs NEG grounding issue, I have no real idea.

Sorry, I was rambling, I should be more clear.

I just want to know if the 6 volt window and power seat motors will hold up if I run them on 12 volts or if they will fry... :D

    I know SOMEONE in HAMB-land has changed a 6 v car with power windows to 12 v.

and, someone has stepped down the voltage, and someone has done this without stepping down the voltage...

I APRECIATE any and all tips and info, including the ones already given (thanks!) and the ones I hope to get...

    Thanks!

For my '55 Lincoln, I took '56 lincoln window motors(they are 12volt)...you can find them rebuilt from some of the lincoln old parts peoples...They weren't cheap, but at least I know they are good! They work great, and better than frying window motors..pain in the *** to replace once you have done interior and stuff. I kept the seat motor, I adjusted to the right place and will leave it. I know it will fry eventually, I'm not taking my chances...(um lets just say I have had a couple electrical car small fires) LOL

    Thanks for the answer!

Not "exactly" the answer I was looking for... :D

I was hopeing the answer would be that "the 6 volt motors will work just fine, but just faster. Actually they are identical to the 6 volt with a different part number.... "

    LOL...

Those are some cool cars in your album...

    Thanks again!
