  1. What is a good brand of sbc water pump available in the U.S?

I was very satified with a Edelbrock aluminum pump from Summit. I had one on my 40 Ford with a SBC. Dropped the temps about 10 degrees. But they are about 170 dollars even here in the USA.

Stewart Components sell NICE iron pumps toos ... almost all the NASCAR teams use them. :) http://www.stewartcomponents.com/

I purchased a GM p/n 19201601 aluminum water pump but I have not installed it yet so I don't know how it cools. That pump is the long type ( 6-15/16") , reverse flow (CCW) pump that is going on a 1991 S10 Blazer 4.3L V6. Cost: MSRP $165.18. I paid a dealer price of $86.57.

The GM water pump is comparable in fit and function to the Edelbrock #8881 long, CCW rotation, aluminum water pump at $169.95 from Summit. The Edelbrock #8810, is a short (5-7/8") , standard CW V-belt rotation (w/o serpentine belt) , aluminum water pump for the same price. NAPA offers a cast iron rebuilt water pump for $37.
