Is there something new going on with getting a ***embled vehicle ***le in Washington State? Talked with a guy today who took his project in for the inspection and ID issueing and they would not do it without a certified welder sign off on the ch***is work. He has built several similar projects and they are not of the unspeakable word type of ride. IF this is true it could be a result of some really badly built stuff getting out on the road. This could turn into a serious problem for builds in progress especially. Any one run into this or have a deffinate answer.
if you have any buddies/know someone that are in the Carpenters Int/Ext union (local #1715 in Vancouver), they will know of or will be a certified welder for gauged metal. If there certs. are up to date I think they could sign off for you. If the metal is a 1/4" or thicker, that is considered "Iron" in the trades and falls under Steel Erectors/Iron workers union.
Actually this type of stuff is now considered normal, with all of the knee jerk reactions from our state government.
Dynaflash, If getting your ch***is signed off is the biggest thing you have to overcome, and that is of such an annoyance that you have to winge about it.. don't ever move to Australia and try and build a rod here. You guys have it SO easy that its laughable.
Hard to believe its May and this is the first anyone has heard of it. I'd need to see a code before I bought in.
That will drive the price of ***les back up again, just a thought, for display purposes only of course.......................
I spent a couple hrs searching thru Wa state req's. It looks like they COULD req about anything they wanted on a ***embled veh insp. I don't think i'll give them a call and rattle their cage, just wait and see how this particular deal turns out. I will post the results. Any body thats hears any thing different let us know.
Welcome to the So******t People's Republic of Washington! Seriously, this is why I try to use late model donor ch***is's and ***led bodies- no ***le b.s. It stays ***led as the original body year and you slip in under the radar. I'm not surprised that the state is cracking down- there is a LOT of truly dangerous sh*t being thrown together today as "rat rods" that shouldn't be on the road. I went to a show this last weekend and saw three "cars" that had ****ty welds on the frames and front ends, worn out front suspensions, broken motor mounts, rattling, flapping body parts....... and one of them won as "best rat rod". Sheeeeesh! Ed
Yeah, I'd have to second that one... ...and yeah, I could see the state asking for something like this. At the end of the world a couple of years ago there were cars that would've scared the **** out of you! People act, Government reacts-it's natural progression. Of course, you Aussies have the State to protect you, so...how do you say it, "No Worries Mate"
