<HR style="COLOR: #e5e5e5; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #e5e5e5" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title -->Hey I bought a 48 chevy stylemaster yesterday and want some ideas. It has a lot of surface rust but only a few small holes in the body and some holes in the floor. It doesn't have a motor or trans and the interior is stripped. So what do you think?

Looks like some of the hard stuff is already done for ya. Chop, drop and big block it. Weld up the front end for tilt nose. Just for starters

I think you did'nt listen to all that advice folks gave ya about a first car,,,thats alot of work

least with it running and moveable you are more likely to not loose interest in it

Congrats on the car,,first thing get a motor and trans in and running and brakes .. After that all the grand design can start

I would start with suspension/driveline - lower it get it running - maybe a staight six with twin carbs and pipes with some smittys or a nice cammed chevy V8 and then start collecting parts for the body mods after that. Maybe something like a 41 buick grill a visor some smooth bumpers and wide whites and some dark green paint ???
Looks like a sweet start to a nice kustom. Good luck and enjoy:)

Thanks for the ideas this car was on craigslist and i will be at the Chop-Shop open house. I like the idea of a visor and wide whites.

Is this your first car (street rod, hot rod)? Do you have all of the parts for it? Like the grille, trim, interior pieces.

If this is your only car, I usually suggest that people find something that is running and just fix it up a little; while driving and having fun with it. Building a first car can take a while.

Remove everything that doesn't look like a "Kustom"...then add wide whites, 'caps, skirts and a T & R interior...shiny paint, or lack of, will not make a bit of difference...

I think that that would make a great gasser, but it would also make a great custom. If it was my car though, I think that I'd make it a custom. But that's just my opinion. It's your car so do what you think would be cool.

Put that piece of crap on a truck and ship it to my house. I'll give you $25.00 for your trouble and make sure it's disposed of properly. LOL

Seriously I've got a '47 stylemaster coupe that will be my next project. I've got one finished, one I'm working on now and then the '47. My plans for the '47 include slammin it, a 261 CI inline six with a split manifold and smitty's, and 2 deuces. A built powerglide tranny. I'll put steel wheels and wide white walls. I think the '47 hubcaps are awsome so I'm going to do what I can to put them back on the car with beauty rings. It will definitely be black because it's been black since day one. When finished it will go in my daughters name. My Dad bought the car for my mother in 1959 and it's the first car I drove when I was 12 years old in 1962. My mother passed in 1977 from cancer at age 47 and the car came to me. I named my daughter after my mother and therefore it will be hers. Whatever you do with your car, enjoy it and don't lose sight of your goal. Mike
