I need to know what size drill bit and what size tap needed to install a 3/8-16 Helicoil insert, I lost the paperwork that came with my kit and I don't want to screw this up. Thanks for any help in advance!

You will need the Helicoil tap that comes in the kit. A normal tap will not work !! The tap will have the drill info on it.

  3. i believe you drill a 25/64" hole , but as already said you need the special tap

the small balkamp kit at nappa is a genuine helicoil kit, you get some inserts, the insert tool, and the tap, a lot cheaper then the big kits.

You'll need a 25/64 bit and a 43064 (taper) or 43066 (bottoming) tap (must use a "STI" tap sold by Heli-Coil vendor).
