I'm looking at getting a set of front drum brake ***emblies from a 51 Chevy sedan to put on my 50 Styleline. The parts will be easier and cheaper to find....and I don't have the green to drop on disc brakes right now. The problem is, the ones I'm looking at don't have the hub ***emblies in them. I'm also having problems finding any on the interwebs :( I was wondering, can I remove the rivets that hold the hub on my 50's drums, and then affix them to the 51 drums? All of the parts on my 50 drums are great, bearings etc...so reusing them would be great, and of course, FREE. Any ideas, thoughts?

So it's just the backing plate/components that are different between the 50 and 51? I was thinking it was the whole shabang.

I know 49 brakes are different than 51. not sure when they changed. I don't have my master parts catalog handy... but the drums/hubs should be the same 49 - 54.

google master parts catalog. there is one online. it goes from 29 - 57 I think and will give the years for what part fits what.

I think the '49 and '50 still used the "huck system" brakes. The Bendix style started in '50 or '51. The Drums and backing plates are different with the two styles. The "huck" style you have to adjust each shoe individually at the wheel cylinder. There are two slots at the top of the backing plate to do this. The "huck" drums has grooves/ridges around the outside of the drum, and the bendix style drum is smooth along the outside like the modern drums. The spindles , hubs, bearings are the same '49-'54.

So, much to my chagrin.....apparently the 50 Chevy Sedan hub ***embly does *not* fit on the 51 drums. At least that's what it looks like and that's what a part reference manual tells me. SO....is there any way to retro fit it on anyhow? If not.....the search for hub ***emblies continues
