Recently I found this neat magnesium center section at a local s**** yard. It was erroneously tossed into a bin of s**** aluminium castings and I was able to buy it for s**** (aluminum) value. What I would like to do is marry it to my 9" roundback rear end housing to give me the strength of a niner and the look of a quickie. Can anybody identify the manufacturer? I would like to find a used / used up rear end cover for it but I don't know whose to look for. The single most distinguishing feature to me is the absence of a twelvth hole on the axle flange near the change gear case. At one time there was an ID tag on the top, about 1" x 2" that was held in place with four rivet nails. If I have to I'll hog a rear end cover out of a billet of aluminum but the thought of a billet piece on a reproduction champ car car makes me shudder. Thank you for your input. Any ideas? Halibrand? Winters? Other?
Going by the side bell and rear cover bolt patterns, that's a Winters center. Looks like the previous owner junked it because the pinion support is broken out...sort of a common problem with the old style centers.
Don't make something FAKE? DON'T MAKE SOMETHING FAKE??? For crying out loud - the whole freakin' car is FAKE.
Here is the QC fitted up to the rear end: The concensus seems to be Winters. Thank you for your help - I will begin a search for a rear end cover.
If you've got any sprint car racers near you, a cover should be easy to come up with cheap. That's about the only part that doesn't get screwed up when you crash one hard...
Yup, especially when a QC can be picked up hub to hub for less than $500, just gotta know the right people one of mine was $350 another was $100 but blown pretty bad
The faux OC is in the faux champ car and nearer to completion. I found an older, more period correct cover for it.
